Crosman 600 conversions..............

Has anyone ever tried to convert a Crosman 600 to .177? I have seen a few of the 600's on Ebay and was thinking that would be a good platform for .177. Would it be best to go back to bed and try for a different pipedream?........................

Mac 1 would be the shop to ask BUT remember the loading channel is designed for .22. The.177 pellets would load funny without modification.
Honestly, if you get one run it in .22. They can be quite the powerhouse for what they are if done correctly.

Thanks for the good advice. I remember when these came out, I was 14 at the time and couldn't swing the high cost back then. Time and everything else is relevent. I have seen different adds on Ebay for them and they talk about different generations. How many generations of this big pistol were there? I am thinking there must have been at least three. Is there any written info on this pistol?..................

Ray, I know at least two generations exist and they are identified by the piercing cap. I don't know much more than that.
Wish I bought one a few years back for 75.00. Hard to find one at a decent price. Well, I price I would pay.

Hi Ray, BZ is right on the mark. The magazine and the elaborate feed mechanism are sized for .22 cal.
Even if the mag could be sleeved (bushed?) with something .020" thick, the same would need to be done to the feed arm.
Then the follower would need turned down and a new magazine spring (smaller diameter) would need to be sourced.
After all of that, you would have much less than a 100% chance that the feed would function reliably.
Even brand new, straight from the box, they had their feed issues. In fact, they included a complimentary ramrod for pellet jams:
Three main variants that I know of are known for their different cartridge piercing method;
1. cartridge inserted neck first and is pierced with a static pin in the valve, cart seals to the valve
2. cartridge inserted neck up and is pierced with a pin on the cap when the cap is tightened, the tube is pressurized
3. same as above except you depress a piercing button after the cap is tightened, the tube is pressurized
If you need more than the usual 360 - 370 fps with 13.73 gr than this might help:

Wyo; thanks for the great input. These have been in the back of my mind for some time and I feel the need to buy and experience one. I realize all that might be involved with conversation to .177; just a thought for now......................

Just a quick note; I just got off of the TW Chambers site(they are a company in Scotland that sells airgun spare parts), I found the .22 barrel I was looking for my HW35. Just clicking around, I found the Crosman page and clicked on 600. There, half way down the page was a listing for a swing-arm .177! Could this possibly mean that Crosman once made .177 cal. 600's for the Brits?...................
