Tim,

You should remove it TimmyMac1
> If so, I am reading that it is attached by pressure and can be removed by using a wood block and hammer to tap it off.
> Is that true and do you have any tips to help me avoid damaging it?
It is easiest to remove the rear by support one of the mounting wedges with a driver so it will not move and then tap the rear sight off (forward or aft) until it comes off the wedge. TimmyMac1
> I have heard that I should try different pellets to see which ones shoot best out of my particular gun.
Normally the heavier the better if you are going for maximum effectiveness downrange. TimmyMac1
> Which brands and types of pellets have you found to generally work well with the 392 for target shooting accuracy?
>
> Which brands and types would you recommend for hunting small game?
JSB pellets have the 18.1, 25.4 and 34 grain that will all work well. The more power you are trying to make the more pellet weight would be appropriate. Your goal is to have the pellet accelerate in the barrel so your trying to match the valve duration with the barrel duration. Too light and the air makes noise NOT POWER!
Heavier pellets have HIGHER ENERGY levels(MORE FPE) in Pumps, PCP's & CO2 systems.
Heavier pellets Have a HIGHER BC (better retained energy)
Heavier pellets go slower so they don't slow down as quickly(air resistance goes up at the Square of the velocity)
Heavier pellets transfer FPE more effectively as Energy transfer is Proportional to the Mass. (Truck blows up Bug).
Generally if valve duration exceeds the barrel duration you turn to pellet sideways as it leaves the muzzle. (and it makes a loud report).
Your target will tell you how wise your pellet choice was for the conditions and pump value you choose to use. Test in conditions so you see real results. If you like Pie plate accuracy making speed will be an option. If you want the guns to group feed them a pellet heavy enough to make them shoot quietly and hit things downrange.
For those in love with speed they need to get another platform.

Learned this from what Tim wrote a while back. I don't have a 392, but I apply the "heavy & slow" rule to both of my 342s, as well as all my PCPs & it works. Not only accurate, but also quiets the report. As a rule, I shoot 28 & 32g Eun Jins out of my stock & Steroided 342s. They hit with some serious authority. I need to give the 25 & 34g JSBs a try too.

Too bad no one makes heavier .20 pellets for the Sheridans. It would be nice to get 18 grains or so.

If you find the Eun Jin Domes they are 23 or 24 grain in .20

What kind of speed would you get out of a non-steroid streak with something that heavy (8 pumps)

Randy, I have both a steroid and a stock streak, and I have some of the heavy Eun Jin pellets, which they don't make anymore sadly.
I'll check my notes and see if have recorded velocities for them from each gun.
The velocity is less but the FPE rises very nicely.

Couldn't find any numbers for my stock blue streak but did find some for my steroid silver.
On 8 pumps with Benjamin 14.3g i get 658 fps for 13.75 fpe.
With the EunJin 23.7g on 8 pumps it's 557 fps for 16.3 fpe.
Beeman makes the Silver Arrow pellets in .20 cal that are 15.59g but I can't find anyone that has them in stock.

I have RWS .20 pellets that I got on a trade for some 14.3 Benjamins with Chacho. They're pretty heavy for a .20 pellet, but I need to dig through my ammo boxes to see what weight they are. Right now, my girl is cleaning the house for expected company & I can't get anywhere near my airgun stuff.
Update: Took me a while, but I finally dug out the tins of RWS Ultra Mags & they are 25g.
