We all know this gun has been in production for a very long time but are there more desirable years to own ? If so why ?

I'm no expert but as Sheridans go I think that the Model "A" is the Holy Grail (1947-1953) followed by by the "B" and then the most common would be the "C"'s. Of these you would have those made before 1964. Then those made before Benjiman. Then the Benjamin/Sheridans made in Racine, WI. And finally the ones made by Crosman in NY. Which are still very well made AG'S, "There aint no flies" on the current Benjiman/Sheridans.

So how well though of are the late 70's versions ? Better, inferior or equal to the new ones. Thanks

IMHO Dave the Sheridans made in the 60s-70s are better than the current models. You'll find American walnut stocks, fore ends and metal trigger guards. I like the older rocker safeties better than the current plastic trigger block safeties on the new models. The sights are the same. The metal finish on the older models is much nicer. The current finish I've lifted off removing a price tag sticker? And those older Sheridans that were given the same care and respect that fine center fire cartridge hunting rifles are given are still giving excellent service and will continue to do so. Old or new if they are over pumped, left in the back of a truck for a couple months or years, pivot points never oiled and just neglected will not last long. I've got one that was horribly neglected and abused though that still shoots fine.
Just my opinion, others will vary.

The 1970's rocker safety guns were the last of the true Sheridan Streaks. Sometime during 1972 or just after, they changed the rear sight so that it is held on tighter. These are the models which seem more prone to barrel separation. On those guns, you might think about removing the sight if you decide to scope it. Might be the addition of clamp on scope blocks adds too much stress. Search on barrel separation over on the Yellow. Tim at Mac-1 posted about this maybe within the last year or so. I still wouldn't turn down a post-72 Streak, by any means. IMHO, they are miles ahead of the 392, especially the transition models, of which I have one.

Normally I scope most of my rifles but this one will be used as a garage gun with open sights.
