Title: AirForce upgrades from TalonTunes
Post by: 454 Big Block Chevy on March 15, 2015, 12:27:26 AM
OK, i have been waiting to do a thorough review of the Talon Tunes parts i have purchased.  I will ONLY provide honest feedback and i have not been given anything for free, NOR ASKED to do this review.  I know the AF line of guns are getting more popular, so i figured i would pass this information allong.

About a year ago now, I purchased a 2014 Model AirForce Condor SS in .25 caliber.  This Air Rifle was amazing.  I had been wanting one for roughly 10 years, and I had finally gotten the filling equipment and such for a PCP.  Plop... right on my doorstep lands a brand new gun.  I immediatly become power hungry.  60 FPE stock just didn't seem to do it for me.  I wanted more.

I purchased initially the 95 gram anti slap mod hammer.  To be quite honest, I did not see an improvement.  The rifle did get a certain extent quieter, but i couldn't discern it from stock.  its shiny?  seems to move easier in the frame.  Worth the money?  honestly i don't know.   If i did this all over again i probably WOULDN"T buy it again, but i don't regret buying it.

Then i purchased from Tony, a 24" tuned barrel and Quick Change Top Hat (which shall be referred to as QCTH from now on).  The Barrel... Where can i begin.  Its amazing.  The barrel is a 24" AirForce branded Lothar Walther barrel.  Basically stock barrel, that he Hand lapped, polished, and cut a slight leade, for shooting slugs.  I Believe he also played with the crown but don't quote me on this.  The barrel, helped me pick up 10 FPE and of course i would.  Going from my SS's 18" barrel to 24" barrel, it makes sense.  I can't say accuracy improved much because.... well AirForce guns are legendary in accuracy.  I can say that the polished breech, and lapped barrel is Much more consistant  to load and shoot slugs with... Factory barrel its a beast to cram a slug in there.  If you are in the market for a new barrel, DEFINATLY contact tony.  I believe the barrel to be the best upgrade i did... i should have bought a 24" condor to begin with.

Now, the QCTH.  This is a piece of art.  It allows you great adjustability in power.  in .25 caliber i can literally go from 15 FPE, to 100 FPE, just by playing with inserts and power wheel.  Before the power wheel doesn't seem to do much, as you get too much airflow as it is.  however with the QCTH, you really get adjustability.  1/2 a rotation on the power wheel makes noticable differences.  Now Wide open (no insert) is pretty much wide open regardless of power wheel using pellets, it REALLY shines with slugs, either swaged or cast.  I can fine tune my air consumption and power level, with absolute ease.  I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this upgrade.  Tony needs to get lined up with AirForce and get this offered as the factory Top hat.  the Factory top hat has similar adjustments but there very touchy, and don't like staying set.

I did buy the breech o-rings from tony, as i figured a year of heavy shooting mine were probably getting wore out.  These puppies are tight.  breech to barrel fit is now very snug.  before the sliding breech seemed like it slid around, now its nice and firm (not overly tight but healthy).  I don't think i was getting airflow around the breech o-rings, but... hey these things are relatively inexpensive, and i believe a decent change out on older guns.  with the polished breech, and tighter o rings, I wouldn't think i am getting even a slight leak.  I hope this information has helped someone.

Thanks!

Thanks! I just got into PCP also but with the TalonP. I think I need to get the Talon or Condor tank to use a QCTH, or will it also fit the P tank?

Check out Talon Tunes...  There's a few reviews of the quick change top hat in a TalonP.

454, That's strange that you didn't see an improvement w/the new hammer.  It weighs more than a factory hammer, so you should have picked up more velocity w/less pre-load...
