1.5" IS a pretty good size...I've only found it "wanting" on a few occasions. If I had it to do over knowing then what I know now.... would have searched for a good used GH14x40.Al

yea.,, and this model i linked has proven to have many QC issues.. But , between the 5 inch chuck , steel gears, 1.5 spindle bore, i still think its pretty good for the price. just a fixer uppper right off the bat,

Previous improvements being models with the more powerful brushless motor (and no headstock gears), and models with the 4" spindle - a few have both.Unlikely any improvement in QC though.Bigger is always better - if space and budget allows.
