I have a few parts done. Made the aluminum housing today after work. The whole thing is kinda long, but it should cock easy and work well. I hope. Can always make it shorter.
Couldn't get my thumb under it, so I turned the body down to 9/16" seems plenty strong.
Its all internal and the spring comes out the back. The spring is .300" OD, preload and gap are easy to adjust. I have some pics.
The 10-32 rod has two lock nuts to lock the preload. The nuts are .278 OD and slide into the .281 hole in the brass threaded adjuster. The brass is 1.550" long with the hole being 1.400" deep
See if I can do a little work on it tomorrow.

When cocked, the .281 nuts slide into the hollow brass and the 3/8 od spacer pushes against the brass. The brass rod thing is 7/16-20

Looks good. The last few days I have been going through the 45 page SSG thread while away from home, now back in my shop it will be a awhile before I start one for my marauder.

Thanks Mark. Yeah 45 pages is a lot of reading. Interesting to see Bob's idea develop though. Everyone has a slightly different version. It can make the gun much more efficient.
I thought I'd be testing mine by now, but I ordered material, they sent me the wrong material, then I ordered material from somewhere else, and then wait again.
Be cool to see what your SSG looks like and how it performs.

I just finished the 10-32 Spring Rod. 3.470" OAL, .312 dia. head and .186" dia. rod. Made a few springs and some other parts today. The spring installed length is 2.600" Could probably use a spring with a 3" free length or close to it.

The green colored part is a spacer. The wider the spacer, the more preload on the spring. I have .150" .200" .250" and .300" spacers. The longer lock nut, which is right behind the spacer, has a .190" dia. counterbore X .060" deep. The locknuts can move .060" to fine tune the preload.
The spacers are .375" dia with a .190" hole and are made of 303 stainless steel. The 10-32 rod is O-1. The end of the rod that fits into the striker has a 118 deg angle to match the hole in the striker.

I found a large pressure gauge that is graduated in 20lb increments. The gauge that came with the gun is off by 200lbs and is pretty useless. The big gauge is just for testing.
The adapter is made from 4130 and the bushing that fits the hole in the stock is delrin.

I just finished the first test. Very promising. I fill with a SCUBA tank and it needs to be filled. I could only fill to 1940 PSI. Got just as much power as it had without Sterns Sensational Gizmo. The gun is absolutely as it came from Crosman, except for the SSG, Mrod trigger, Large pressure gauge and a new Crosman barrel. My gauge adapter adds 4cc to the air capacity of the gun.

Honest, this is the first string I shot. Kinda guessed at the spring rate and preload. I made a few springs and went by feel. I made the spring from .043" wire. .191"/.193" ID fits real nice on the .186" spring rod. The spring is 3.050" free length, 2.600" installed, 17 lb 5 oz rate. Very easy and smooth to cock the gun. Before the SSG I got like 14 shots with the Korean Cliff and over 100 FPE spread.
**** 8-8-17 I should have explained, when I say the spring is 17 lb 5 oz, that was when it was installed at a 2.600" length, and then compressed .600" more to simulate conditions when it is cocked.

I REALLY like the new gauge. It has a 2 1/2 " dial. Making the adapter was a pain, but now I can easily see how much pressure I have. The pic is right after the first string I posted above. A hair less than 1000 PSI remaining.

My fancy pressure gauge seems to be off by about 15 PSI. Some shots used 45 PSI and others at the same power level used 10 PSI or even less. Got to be the gauge. Still way better than the Crosman gauge. That was off by 200 PSI. The new gauge is nice and big, easy to read.
I found some shot strings from a year ago, before I made the SSG. The high velocity was 794 fps with 18.1 JSBs. Exactly what my high was with the SSG yesterday. That was one of my goals, to make an SSG that produced decent power. I wonder how my SSG would perform on a modded Disco?
The first string here from 2016 is pretty bad. Shooting JSB 15.89 from 2000 PSI down to 1000 PSI

Shot a string tonight without making any changes. I thought about changing the gap from .025" to .050" but decided not to. See if what happened yesterday would repeat. I filled from the same depleted SCUBA tank and got a fill of 1950 PSI as opposed to 1940 PSI yesterday. 18.1 JSB 1 foot from the chronograph.

Got a couple more shots tonight compared to yesterday. The max velocity was 9 fps slower today. Maybe the spring got a little weaker? It was brand new yesterday.
Think I should try some lighter pellets tomorrow. Might need a weaker spring. If any of you guys have ideas, please speak up.

Shot another string tonight. Filled to 1960 PSI and shot 15.89 JSB 1 foot from chronograph. Nothing was changed on the gun. It's pretty easy to cock, I cocked it with just my pinky a few times for the heck of it.
The string was pretty good until shot 25, then it went downhill fast. When I shot the 15.19 JSB out of the Disco without an SSG, I had a 133 fps spread in just 15 shots!
Like I said earlier, this is a stock, unmodified Disco. Stock valve, transfer port etc.

Shot around 100 shots with the SSG so far. Didn't know if the 3/16" bolt would hold up to the slamming, especially with the heavy spring. There is a .021" deep thread relief reducing the diameter to .144" There is a nice radius in the corner of the relief, rather than a sharp corner. Don't know how all the other parts are doing either. The plan is to shoot a tin of cheapo pellets and take it apart and look things over.
The high velocity shot from this SSG string, was 9 FPS slower than the gun shot without an SSG. Lost .5 FPE. That's all for now.

I bought some Crosman 14.3gr at evilmart for $6.50 and shot a few strings with those. Then I took the spring and rod out of the gun for a look. Everything seems fine after around 200 shots.
I removed the .150" spacer from behind the spring, and installed a .350" spacer. This increased the preload by .200" I can still cock it with just my pinky, but it's not easy or pleasant. I don't have a scope on the gun, so it's easy to get a comfortable grip. It's defiantly harder to cock, but I don't think the bolt will ever snap off. Would have to shoot a bunch to really find out. The gun is DEFINATLY louder with the extra preload.
I filled to 1895 PSI... have a .025" gap... and shot 18.1gr 1 foot from the chrony.

Then I took out the .350" spacer and installed a .250" spacer. Defiantly easier to cock and defiantly quieter. .025 gap... filled to 1860 PSI... shot 18.1gr 1 foot from the chrony and shot the string below.

The first 20 shots of the above string averaged 24.8 FPE. The gun was pretty easy to cock, and wasn't crazy loud. So yeah, the stock Disco with an SSG can make some decent power.

This is crazy. I filled to 1900 PSI tonight and got 74 low power shots from that one fill. The first 20 and last 9 shots were really slow, but that still leaves 45 kinda decent low power shots.
The only change I made tonight was to reduce the preload .050" by installing a .100" thick spacer. Same spring as all the other strings, same .025" SSG gap, same 18.1 JSB. I've stopped shooting at 1000 PSI on all the previous strings, but tonight I kept going.
Maybe I'll go back to the .150" spacer to increase preload, and change the gap to .037" or .050" and see what happens. I don't get max velocity until shot # 48, so yeah I need to hit the valve harder.

74 500 583 480 PSI after shot # 74
I kept shooting because my first shot was 590 FPS, so I figured lets shoot till I reach 590 again, what the heck. If I was filling with a hand pump, I'd fill to 1600 PSI and get 45 or 46 shots.
I have a regulated 177 Disco that shoots around 10 FPE and gets 40 or 45 shots. I wonder how many shots I'd get with an SSG installed?
A few times tonight, the pressure gauge didn't move after taking a shot. I looked at it with a magnifier and saw it move 5 or 10 lbs after 30 seconds or maybe a minute. It seems to take a little while to react. It kinda gets stuck, then catches up in a shot or two.
Now I'm thinking the spring I'm using is too strong. I think a weaker spring would be less sensitive to small changes in preload. It should be easier to fine tune a slightly weaker spring. Just edited to add that.

Well I'm impressed, yes Sir! Question is when will my SSG be ready? Seriously, would love to have one if you've the inclination, time, and a fair price my friend.
