Title: CO2 tank failure pressure
Post by: venxxxxx on June 17, 2013, 10:35:47 PM
Im brainstorming on adding an extra air tank to the discovery rifle via gauge port. Wondering if a regular CO2 tank safe to use at 1800-2000psi? Although its stamped 1800psi max fill on the bottle, and have a 3k burst disk, can it be used up to 2k psi ?

The setup in thinking of very much like a typical paintball marker: tank+adapter and hose connect directly to fill port adapter.

I believe this has been done on 22xx run on Co2, so it ought to work on hpa. What do you guys think?

Co2 tanks ARE NOT RATED for those kind of pressures .... doing so would be VERY FOOLISH !

What about hpa tanks?   Would the braided line as linkage safe to use at 2k psi?

If you want an HPA tank, you can pick them up from Ninja Paintball dealers.  That would be the safe way to get the extra storage of a tank.

Ninja tank with all washer removed-unregulated full pressure.  ;D

CO2 tanks are typically rated at 1800 psi... The 3K burst disc is because the tanks are hydrotested to 3000 psi which is 5/3 of their maximum safe working pressure.... 1800 psi means 1800, not 2000.... DO NOT FILL A CO2 TANK PAST THE RATED PRESSURE STAMPED ON THE SHOULDER OF THE TANK, PERIOD....

If you are suggesting that you can use 3000 psi in a Disco, same warning applies.... The Valve mounting screws in the Disco are not rated for that much pressure....

Thanks for the reply. I would use it just at 2k psi on the discovery, since more might cause valve lock.

Well, ive bought an hpa 22cu in tank and been shooting with it. But also have been using the co2 tank and filled it with hpa to 1k and it shoot alot better, i guess its unregulated as to the regulated in the hpa tank. Either way, the talon ss love it and with 3 tanks i shoot all day like a maniac without constantly hand pumping.

you don't want to putt more that 2200psi on the disco valve unless you upgrade the bolts. to be able to support 2500 psi to 3000 psi safely.

I just did a bottled disco on a 3000 psi bottle reg at 1600. (22ci)

The paintball oriented HPA tanks have to be one of the cheapest pressure vessels on earth except CO2 cartridges :-).

That looks good. Great build. Now if you add a bmn breech and full shroud, itd be the bomb. I got an extra tube laying around, might get on a similiar project like yours.
