Title: Condor hack?
Post by: fixit on August 30, 2021, 10:05:23 AM
I have been thinking (yes, I know, that can be a dangerous way to pass time!)....has anybody fiddled with melding anything airforce related with FX barrel liners? I have contemplated getting one to experiment with on my condor, as a cheaper way of changing caliber and/or barrel length. I have the machine skills to do whatever adaption is needed, so I was just curious about whether such an endeavor would be worthwhile.

I had a similar idea, but ended up wanting to go to a large caliber. Bought the .35 liner and sleeved it with some 16mmx12mm carbon fiber tubing and loctite. I'm not working on making a new tophat for the valve (which just started leaking....great) and will be making a new bolt. Trying it with the existing hammer and spring. We will see what happens.

Are you going to design and build your own "breech slide" or whatever that thing is called?

Yes,

I designed it on CAD and will be printing a test it as soon as I figure out the dimensions of the new tophat I'll be putting together.

And that's exactly what I had in mind. I'll be interested to see how your project goes, and at some point, I hope to add my own two cents on it!

Be careful with the " breech slide". Knifemaker had one blow apart while chasing 180 FPE with his Talondor.
Talon tunes sells an aluminum slide, I don't know if they have 38 cal or not.

If you want to use plastic slide press fit a stainless or steel tube on it, and for plastic I can only recommend peek or glass filled nylon.

Nothing printed will work unless it's metal.
I have blown the end off on my 357 breech slide that was from delrin, stainless sleeve on it so it contained the parts.

Here is a person that made one and I think it sold on Ebay for $150+ s&h (http://)

I agree,

As of right now with 2200-2300psi in my tank I'm getting over 90fpe with 1-2mm of valve opening and nearly the lowest hammer spring setting.

The ABS is doing fine, but I wanted to test my design and it did just that!
