Walmart is having the 880s in black for $32.99 as I write this. I want to mainly shoot BB's .. but.. Is the rifling made strong enough to take BB's and if I decide to shoot pellets, will it still be accurate ..... or after a few thousand BB's is the rifling blown out.I have other pellet guns and would never consider shooting BB's in them, but in this gun is it OK or is Daisy just saying it is OK, when in reality your accuracy goes to heck in a hand-basket with pellets if BB's are also used.wll
If you are going to shoot BBs, the more power you give them the more they will act like a knuckle ball. I have found you get more accurate results with 3 pumps than with 10. Since the BBs are slightly smaller than bore diameter, they are going to fly all over no matter what you do.
Get a GEO LDC for it as they will make the gun more accurate and really quiet! I love this gun, once I find the perfect scope for it I will be very happy. I had a bug buster on it and it was really nice. But I needed that scope for my other air rifle.
At the current prices of the 880 you could almost buy 2 of them and use one for pellets only. I prefer the older metal/metal 880 for accuracy.I have a Ted Williams and an 881. Both were smooth bore guns and neither were up to par. They had a different barrel to valve set up than modern 880. The barrel had a transfer port type set up. I gutted both and modified them to install the modern 880 guts. All in all, both are markedly improved. Some folks consider what I did as a bad thing. Truth is, I have so many guns of all platforms laying around here that the tinkering of these two was well worth the fun.
Tasco has a 3-7 x20 scope sold at Walmart that I have on a Crosman 760,and my Daisy's 880 and 35. That scope works great for me and is under $20. If you do the basic mods from stonykill ,at the beginning of Daisy Gate, i.e. fill the stock, tape the straw barrel, and remove the shim from the trigger, you will be surprised at how nice it becomes. jmho
Always remember the bolt has to be open for the valve to take air. I have seen someone forget......
