I picked up a couple at $29 from a local Walmart about 2 years ago. They sold them online for that clearance price also, but none of the Walmarts in this part of western NY will ship anything airgun related to my area.

Amazon ALSO clearanced their stock of same air rifle for $29 around the same time, so keep watching for more possible price drops from Walmart AND other sources.

Basic springer that can shoot quite well but it really needs a good trigger tune-up. You might get a good one the shoots great right out of the box? IMO it's not the best choice for folks who can't or don't want to open up their air rifles for repairs or modifications. EXCELLENT cheap project air rifle for those that like to tinker.

Thanks Mikey.

I don't know the guns, but that's pretty much what I was thinking - good for someone wanting a cheap .177 tool, or good for a tinkerer, but not so good for youngsters (size & weight).

I assume the triggers are somewhat less than Rekord level.  ha ha
And I assume that they are "crunchy" and loaded with lube.

But if they shoot decently after a basic cleanup, well, you've got yourself a rifle....

Has anyone done a detune or soft tune on this gun to make it 10-12 ftlbs?

I guess compression tube length could determine whether or not it's a good candidate. If it has a shorter tube like the D48/52 guns, then it could be worth it. If it has a long tube like the D350, then probably not. I don't need this rifle, but for $40, if it had good potential to shoot well after shortening the spring (say, in the 800fps range?), it'd be hard to say no.

Stephen, my guess is that it does 800 as-is.

The 1100 claim is probably more like 950/1000 with alloy pellets, so I'll hazard 800 with a decent weight pellet like an 8.2 or 8.4...

Again, I'm just shooting from the hip.  Maybe someone here has actual numbers.
(Cough, cough, Mikeyb, cough.....)

I'd be curious to know.

i've never tried tuning a break barrel, but for this price it would make a good rifle to learn on.

if i don't mess it up and it shoots good, it would be a nice rifle to leave in the garage corner for those times when you watn/need toshot something, and living in a humid enviroment prevents you from keeping a nice gun in the garage.

it would also make a good boat gun.  again, if it shoots accurately enough.

i just read what i typed and it sounds like i'm trying to convince myself to buy one.  :o ;)

Well, it costs me around $80 to fill up my truck these days, so to me its equivalent to half a tank.
I bought one just to give it a try.  After all, it has sights so no need to spend any scope/mount money on it.
I'm curious to see if its in the Hatsan Edge neighborhood for build quality/accuracy.
Customer reviews are fairly positive.  Could be nice cheap fun.

Thanks for the reply Brian. Very intrigued. And as Carl says, at this price, you can make it a garage/truck/boat gun and not sweat the scuffs.

I suggest reading at least this thread

https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=152549.msg155677057#msg155677057 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=152549.msg155677057#msg155677057)

for anyone interested in this rifle.

If you do get one and want to do a trigger mod, the info posted by bhh (and others) is excellent.

I posted my trigger mod version here

https://michaeljbernard.wordpress.com/2019/08/04/2019_08_04_daisy_winchester_1100s_trigger_mods/ (https://michaeljbernard.wordpress.com/2019/08/04/2019_08_04_daisy_winchester_1100s_trigger_mods/)

based on THEIR (bhh and other folks) previous work mixed in with a little of my own trigger preferences.

Thanks for those links mikeyb. For those interested, the bottom of page 4 of that GTA thread has a table with chrony numbers from mikeyb. Looks like the 1100s does 900+ fps with 7.9g pellets.

Well, mean old Mister WalMart doesn’t like my zip code, so no 1100s for me. Hopefully someone can take advantage of the offer.

It ain’t light.  I have a Winchester 1100s.  It’s the same thing as the Daisy.  The gun is approximately ten lbs. without a scope.  I’ve bobbed three inches off the barrel and five inches off the forearm on mine to try to make it balance better.  It’s down to about nine pounds now.
Mine shot well and was very powerful when I first got it.  I have about 3000 pellets through it.  It has some issues right now.  Mainly a loose barrel pivot that affects accuracy but it is still very powerful for a bargain table air rifle.
There is a simple grub screw modification for the trigger that will give a modest improvement.  If you search for your rifle or the Winchester model on the forum archives there are several helpful threads.

Thanks-so more like 10 lbs- heavy but not quite a pig

Power wise  how does it compare to a Diana 460?

Thanks

Charlie

PS I am not a break barrel fan-but I do like power-DESPITE not being a hunter-I like power-and $39- $42 with tax-BARGAIN- I am cheap-so a bargain is a bargain

Sounds like a deal but man, I got so many of these low end discount guns standing in corners and under beds. With shipping and packing costs as they are I just can't get rid of them. I did manage to move a few lately... I traded them for labor during our recent move.

Ha!

Bill & I must be cut from the same cloth.
I have a few that I don't need for sure, and the only reason I picked up one of these was to "check it out".  I'm the only airgun guy in my circles so there's really no other way for me to try stuff.
And if it is a good, serviceable rifle I will probably gift it to my friend Ruben.  Might even end up with a 2nd airgun shooter in town.
But probably not - he's a "powder burner"  lol.

I've converted several power burner guys to "the way of the air".
The key to that is, make sure they know as much as you can teach them including pellet sources.
If not, you may not get much alone time....  :o

I don't know about a Diana 460 but it was pushing 7.4gr Crosman pointed pellets to over 860 fps.  I still haven't found a pellet it likes better than the Crosman pointed pellets but it really deserves a heavier pellet.  Be forewarned.  It has a lively shot cycle!

Seen that a Chinese clone of an older Hatsan?

Question fornthebguys that know these rifles -
Seen that a Chinese clone of an older Hatsan?

I started taking apart Hatsan's starting early 2018, although some of the new/old closeouts I've received are dated a few years earlier.
I noticed some very Hatsan-like parts in my 1100s, but also other parts (like the trigger assembly) unlike any Hatsan I've worked on.

https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=152549.msg155699551#msg155699551 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=152549.msg155699551#msg155699551)

The 1100s could be close copy of an older Hatsan, but I cannot confirm that.

It is possible some Hatsan parts might fit and I suspect some Crosman parts might also fit(?). I'm fairly certain I could cross-reference one or more alternate springs (for replacement or detuning) from Vortek, but I'm not planning to alter these rifles. At this time I'm just having fun shooting them.

What's this?
Are you saying that we don't need to completely rebuild one before we can have fun with it?  😁

Also, how would you compare the trigger to a Hatsan Edge?  The Edge is the cheap springer that I compare all others to.  Boy I wish they'd use a better trigger blade though!
Title: Re: Winchester 1100S - $39 shipped
Post by: Blowpipe Sam on November 12, 2021, 10:02:21 PM
IMO the Edge has a slightly better trigger.  Especially if you do a little tuning to the Edge trigger.  The grub screw trick on the Daisy is harder to fine tune but it will produce a decent trigger pull.  The big issue with mine is the uncomfortable shot cycle.  I’m thinking about cutting a coil or two off the spring to tame the recoil.

3 stock screws, pop the 1 pin holding that blade in, 20-30 minutes to straighten it how you want and maybe put a piece of heat shrink over it and presto, no more overcurved trigger blade...lol

Well, if I don't have to take the whole trigger assembly apart, I might even try straightening one.  Thanks!

Well, mine arrived this afternoon and it's better than expected.

The good:
  -  General machining is fine.  Much better than I expected actually
The fork joint seems machined true, and with minimal clearance.
Breech chamfer & muzzle crown appear to be aligned with the bore.
Chisel rides evenly against its mating boss.
          Lockup is quite solid.
The dovetail groove appears to have been machined in alignment with the compression tube.
          The gun is accurate.
  -  Sights are fine. Plastic, but they don't have any play in them and respond to adjustment in a reliable fashion.
  -  Safety is resettable.
  -  I find it easy to cock.
  -  it appears to make good power.  It will be interesting to chrony.
  -  much lighter than I expected.  Don't have a kitchen scale, but the box says 6.6lbs and I dont think its too far off.

The bad:
  -  the trigger is long and rough.  Basiacally a yank-fest.
  -  breech seal is flush with the pivot block.
  -  the crown may be on point, but the bore seems to have drifted a bit in relation to the center axis of the barrel.
  -  there is some soft crunching going on with the cocking stroke.  Not much really, but its there.

That said, after goofing around a little I did drop a crappy old Center Point 4x "package" scope onto it and gave it an honest try (9 yds) with some Hobby's which fit the bore pretty well.  I pulled the second shot low while trying to stage the trigger, but 1, 3, 4 & 5 had no human error to speak of.

So I'm surprisingly happy with it.  It would definitely be a good gun to tinker with.

I have the 1100 Win. with the wood stock. Good gun. It's a little heavy. I got it refurb a few years ago from Amazon or Ebay for $84 if I remember right. Got a cheap no name 3-9x40 scope with the range finder reticle mounted with low rings. Way back I bought six of those scopes on sale for $15 each.

I did the trigger mod. It helped a little. Trigger pull is about 4-4.5 lbs. Short first stage, breaks clean and predictable. It's a keeper.

I have the Hatsan made Win. 1000 and 800. Got them at pawn shops. They are the same gun except the 800 has a little less spring. Stocks are interchangeable. I ordered the longer 1000 stock from Daisy to replace the shorter ugly 800 stock. Trigger assembly is similar to the 1100 but different. I wouldn't take either trigger apart. 1000/800 stock will not fit the 1100.

$40 is definitely a good price for a springer if you can make it shoot well enough.

How loud is it?
How hard is it to open it up and lube it (have experience with other springers) ?

The Hatsan Edge .22 is usually available for $60.
Can anybody compare the Hatsan Edge and the Winchester/Daisy 1100?
Is the Hatsan trigger better?

This thread got me to pull my Winnie 1100s out of the closet, tighten the barrel pivot screw, and polish the crown.  After 25 pellets had lapped the crown in the groups began to tighten up and by about 50 it was grouping 1/2” at 20 yards with 7.4gr Crosman pointed pellets.

It is louder than my Hatsan 125 but not my Crosman 1400’s.  Yeah, it’s loud.
I haven’t torn into it but it looks like a Hatsan with the two pins securing the end cap.  Should be pretty straight forward.  IMO the Striker/Edge is a better gun.  Whether the trigger is better is a matter of opinion.  My Striker has a pretty good trigger after just a little fiddling.  The grub screw mod for the Daisy is harder to fine tune and IMO does not produce as good a trigger as the Hatsan.
On the plus side the over all finish and the bluing is better than either of my Mod 125’s. The bluing on the Hatsans gets pretty shabby in places.

I've never opened up a springer, so I can't speak to that.
I do have a few Edge's though, and the triggers are better although I hate the hook shape of the Edge blade.
I'm hoping that the 1100 trigger can be helped a little.  It isn't terribly heavy but it's very long and couldn't be called crisp at all.  I hardly expexted a Rekord, but it's the only real issue the rifle has.

I am contemplating putting a dab of JB Weld on the trigger blade the way some folks do with the Striker trigger to shorten the first stage.  The grub screw does help with the pull weight and the second stage.

Anything that pushes the spring behind that trigger blade off of it will shorten that longggg "first" stage.

I've used JB WELD, layers of duct tape of all things, just bending it backwards can help, there's a way to drill for a set screw in the blade itself to push
that spring off. If you have lighter wire, you can try that too. mikeyb sent me some for winding my own softer springs for the Edge/Striker/1000
trigger blades.

I think if you look close you'll see the triggers are different and the stocks are not interchangeable. The 1100 front stock screw go in at an angle. The 1000 stock screws go in 90 degrees or straight in. The cocking linkage look similar but the way the attach to the barrel block is different. The safety lever and end cap look similar but are different. Trigger guard is different.

They made the 1000 in Brazil for a while between Turkey and China. I've never seen one up close. I'd like to have one since I have the Hatsan made 1000 and the 1100.

This is my Winchester 1100s.  There are many like it but this one is mine.

I chopped 2.5” off the barrel and 4” off the forearm.  The pickle is fake.  It’s just a cocking handle made from PVC sprayed with truck bed liner.
I put about one hundred Crosman pointed pellets through it today.  It will never be a tack driver but I was getting half inch groups on paper at 20 yards and nailing the little 1.5” spinners so I backed it up to thirty yards and shot my chi-com resetting target.  I was averaging seven shots to get all four spinners and the reset target.  Let’s call it plinking accurate at thirty yards

Now If I could find a good quality pellet that it liked. . . .

I like it. Ruger scope. Economy shooter. I cut the front 3" off  an RS2 dual cal. stock so the scout scopes I mounted on the barrel would clear when cocking and sanded and painted it with P/U bed liner.

My go to pellets for accuracy are RWS Meisterkugeln and R-10 Match wadcutters.

I live in NY and Walscrewed, because of shipping limitations on NYC, lumped the whole state into it. Pretty stupid that they won't sell or ship to
addresses or stores in NY for customer pickup, yet they ship to their own stores for sales to walk in customers.

I had that discussion live with a CS manager and while he agreed, said his hands were tied because of BS corporate policies.

Does it really feel THAT HEAVY?

Claimed weight of 10 lbs I think??

My crosman .22 Phantom NP is 6 lbs--   its  power claim about the same- claims 950 FPS in .22-probably 9 grain alloy pellet-

Is it THAT heavy??

I love bargains-and my hate of break  barrels  has faded since I have been shooting the Phantom more(it shoots accurately and I love the fiber optic ft sight-it works great for my 70 yo eyes)

$39-meaning $42.50 delivered-hard to resist?

Thanks

Charlie

Well, I stuffed my hollow stock with tightly packed rags, and I just got on the scale to see.
Deducting my weight, it's coming in at just over 7 pounds. May not want to carry it around  all day........ ;)
Weight will help tame some of the recoil, and I 'll be using a heavier pellet as well. It is a big gun.  lol

I'm pretty sure that the weight is an out of date spec.

Mine is claimed to be 6.6 lbs, and that feels right to me.
If Wendell says he weighed himself with & without the rifle and came up with 7lbs, I'm a believer.
It is NOT an extra heavy gun.

I didn't notice any hollow "sproinging" while I was playing around with mine but if I do I'll stuff the stock too.

I would have been King of the Hill with a gun like this as a kid.
And I wouldn't have known to be dissapointed in the trigger, so it would have been pure joy.  Until I ran out of pellets, anyway....

Wendell - show us how yours shoots....!

I don't get to try it out until no one is around! I live in an apartment building.
However, if it shoots anything like the 2 previous I'll be happy.

Gotcha.

Well, mine gave a good accounting of itself the one time I shot it.
It very much liked Hobbys, so maybe my cheap gun has (relatively) expensive tastes?  😁

Or maybe, juuust maybe, some poor guy in China decided to get back at his boss/company by secretly making good barrels when no one was looking, and I got one of those...?  😂😂😂

I'll need a cheap AO scope to find out...

Thank for posting the price drop.  It now shows as $35.10.  It appears to me that it cannot be ordered if using any of the Ohio or Michigan zip codes.  I was able to add it to my cart when I entered an Indiana zip code.  It does not appear to be able to be order for pickup at any Ohio, Michigan, or Indiana stores.  So my guess is Walmart will only ship this item to addresses in select states.

A question about your new Win. 1100. Is the trigger guard a separate part or part of the stock? I want to see if I can get a wood stock before I order one. I have a Win. 1100WS but it would be the first gun I have two of.

The trigger guard on my Winnie 1100 pulls right out after you remove the two screws holding it.  I don’t know if it will fit the wood stock though.  Be safe and order a trigger guard with the stock.

I estimate mine at about 30 lbs.  The long barrel provides a lot of leverage even with a couple of inches lopped off.  It needs a cocking handle though.  I made one out of PVC.

WTH? Says not available in my area?

Welcome to the club.  See my prior postings in this thread.  I considered ordering this one while I wait for Krale to receive more HW50S rifles which reportedly will be no sooner than December 15th.  Until then am waiting for my entire order from Krale including HW30S and some various pellets.  I did not want to pay an extra $35 to split the shipments so I could receive the HW30S within a few days.  Last night I ordered a Beeman P17 which now should be my first air gun.  Hopefully it make waiting for the rifles a little easier.

I went out today and bought some rubber mulch to make a pellet trap.  I already make my own reactive targets a few weeks ago back when it was still warm enough to spray paint outside.  It was a good excuse to use up a 20+ year old role of carpet protector I still have left over.  And to think I almost threw that out a few times but thanks to the postings here and elsewhere I finally found a use for it.   I won't use the cheap $1.48 Quick Color flat black spray paint in the future for any projects after using it for the targets.  Some recommended the cheap Walmart Color Place spray paint but I did not buy it as my Walmart is about 12 minutes away versus 5 for Home Depot.  Walmart only has gloss black and white in their cheap paint and many recommended using flat black rather than gloss black for targets.

I'm sorry to hear about all the people who can't get these shipped to them.

For similar money, you should be able to get a Hatsan Edge refurb.
Or an 87 with the Quattro trigger if you're really lucky, obviously for more money.

Or maybe get the Winchester shipped to an out of state family member who you'll be seeing for the holidays?

It was an impulse purchase anyways. It just baffles me that the back woods of lower Alabama would be restricted. I've never had that happen before. So I ordered the Beeman 1358 instead.

Couldn't resist that price. Ordered one, $38 and some change . Says it'll be here Tuesday. I'll check with Daisy 'bout a wood stock Monday.

My 1100ws I bought refurb a few years ago for $84 is a good basic pellet rifle. Built like a tank, not too heavy, cocking manageable. With the trigger mod it's about 4.5lbs, very little first stage, breaks easy, clean and predictable. Good shooter.

Title: Re: Winchester 1100S - $39 shipped
Post by: Kragman1 on November 27, 2021, 09:04:23 AM
I would say average loudness, mine doesn't have any twang to speak of and I don't hear anything "extra" through the stock.  Mine does have some spring rub/drag during the cocking stroke. Its modest but its there.
Really, the only thing I can point to as an issue is the trigger - its not too heavy but it has too much take up & overtravel.  Could be worse.

For me it would have been just a tinkering toy not that I don't already have a few..lol. I've already owned or still do the Hatsan Edge in all 3 calibers, their cousins in the Turk built Webley line
with 4 Webley Valuemax .20's and the Spector in .177, plus the 87QE in both  .177 and .25...lol.

My 1100 came today. Can't believe I bought another gun is a plastic stock. Got a Synergis a few weeks ago. Even though the computer said the gun came from Carrolton, Ga. the return address was in Spartanburg, S.C.

Looking through the cocking lever slot in the stock you can see part of the spring and this gun has the same thick coat of grease on the spring as my older Win. 1100ws.

Looking for a set screw to do the trigger mod. Think I have one somewhere just like the one I used in the other gun.

Aw man, dont buy it from Wally World. Hurry up and get $30 off the 1100ss at PA. Only $89. (Maybe no free shipping unless you bump it up with a tin of pellets, etc.) OK, I see the 1100s-S comes with a 4x AO scope from what I can see, but the PA gun does not show nor list one. Hopefully this is a lot more gun for about $65 more.
