Title: It's a rough life but...
Post by: anti-squirrel on January 14, 2019, 10:55:49 PM
Here I sit in my hotel room on a trip for work.

I left Richmond VA in the midst of what almost became an ice storm.  Landed in Miami a few hours later, then drove south.  Now I'm in Key West... For work.  Tomorrow after finishing here I head up to Miami Beach, then the following day is Coral Gables.  I wrap up in and around Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale.

Work is still a four-letter word, but times like this it ain't so bad.  LOL, I still favor my Pac Northwest, Texas, and Ohio/KY trips the most, but the Kansas/Arkansas trip and the "north mitten" trip to Michigan aren't so bad.  TBH, the Wisconsin/UMN/Fargo trip is a joy as long as it's not mid-Winter.  Would much rather be home with SWMBO, but leaving icy wintry mix for the Keys...  Can this be considered taking one for the team?

Anyhooo... I'm sure a lot of you guys and gals can find pleasure in some aspects of your work.  Let's hear it.

Occasionally I have time to hit small antique shops as I'm driving through rural towns for my job. I find a neat airgun every once in a while.

after I retired I wondered when did I ever have the time to work?

You get that kinda work trip and last week I left my house at 2:30AM monday morning, flew to Baltimore MD then drove to Chambersberg PA, worked for ~3 hours (fixed the machine I went for), checked out of the hotel, drove by Gettysburg PA and stopped at Cemetery Hill for a few minutes and continued to the airport, flew to Kansas City, landed at 11pm, left the airport to drive ~65 miles SE at 7AM, worked for ~8 hours, drove back up to KC, slept, left at 6AM back to the same place, worked for 3 hours then back to the airport to fly home...

I've been to Toronto twice, was going to go to the falls the second time but couldn't stay awake for the drive... I've had good business trips though, not everyone gets sent to Australia for work! just wish I had more $$ when I was there, would have been much more fun, not a cheap country...

The best part of working is not having to work. In truth I have been busier since I retired than when I was employed full time. Since having retired last March I went to the GTA Fun Shoot last May did a ton of neglected yard work. Did a little salt water fishing, bicycle riding, and a bunch of pellet rifle shooting then October and a trip to Montego Bay with SWMBO good times. Then home again and major kitchen remodel due to walking into the house to discover major water damage from plumbing drain leak. since then SWMBO has decided that we needed to do some additional face lifting around the house ( couple new floors and fresh paint ) Now we are doing the empty out the closets ,basement and  garage in preparation of putting the house on the market some time in the next year or so. The next two or three vacations will be to explore possible places to relocate to. My biggest requirement is milder winters and room to shoot my AG's without worrying about the local restrictive laws
