NOE 217-30-FN mould

I posted this in the NOE airgun forum already, but I thought it might be worth a repost here. I'm not sure how practical this is at these power levels, but I've never been known for being sensible anyway.
I have a Gamo Urban and a Qb79 hpa that are both running around 20 ft lbs with pellets. I really wanted a hollow-point mould for the lighter weight bullets, but the 30 gr flat points look promising so far. I haven't had a chance to chronograph them and test for accuracy yet, but I did put a few into a phone book at about 15 yards last night. They definitely had some smack, and all were clustered together. I hope to test them further tomorrow.

My jkhan noblesse shoots those and the hp version really well. Picture below is the hp fired into a jug of water.

Eddie I'm a big fan of those bullets myself, I bought the five cavity on their 4th of July sale not knowing how nice they really are. Very accurate in both my Prod and my SPAM16 but I'm doing a lot more power behind them that what you are. I did shoot a clip of them out of a CP2 carbine(co2) just to see how they'd shoot out of that and they were accurate but shooting them slow. If they had the hollow point ones in stock I'd have bought one of those instead.

Thanks for the move! I overlooked this forum.
I shot a few over the chronograph today. I'm getting 540 fps from the qb79 hpa. My Urban is down right now with a bad bolt probe o-ring. I think I can get the speed up a little with it. They grouped pretty good at 20 yards.

That's a darned good group for 20 yards, your Urban will probably also shoot them good too but time will tell. Speaking of o rings I've got a bunch coming in the mail myself and hopefully they'll be here soon.

I got a tracking number on my o-rings this morning. I hope to find out soon.
Here are a few of the bullets I recovered from a phone book.

I have both the 217-30 and 220-30 BBT have only tested the 217 so far and that was out of my 21 fpe hybrid 13xx-MK177 pumper... so sending them about the same fps... it uses a 22" Discovery barrel... It does about .75" and smaller at 30 yards... CPHP are .6 and less at 30 yards same rifle...
not bad for a pump air rifle that is probably a little different harmonically every time you pump it up...
My Maximus is torn down right now and thinking of porting it before putting it back together... The bore/groove is much tighter than the Disco and just got the NOE .215 and .216 sizing die inserts... .217 was to tight in the barrel...
I have the .250 nose .252 drive band 40g BBT that I send out of my .25 Mrod which is .250 bore and .252 groove and .2495 groove at the choke... When sized to .2495 to .250 I get .75 groups at 50 yards... point is you may do best if the rounds are sized to near groove size at the choke in the urban...
every barrel/rifle is different... but like rifles, Urban/Urban-Mrod/Mrod-Qb/Qb will probably like similar sizing/alloy/weight...
some times you get lucky and the round will fly best as cast... some times ya need to size for the barrel...

I'm shooting them as cast right now, and if the Urban does as well as the Qb79, I'll be happy. I haven't weighed any of them yet, but I might try that and sort them to see how much difference it makes at longer ranges.

your recovered rounds look like you got lucky and they fit the barrel just about perfect... bore riding the nose and good engraving of the drive band without fins... wonder what the Leade looks like in your rifles barrels...
I take it that those are from the QB...

Yes, all were from the Qb. I never thought about leade in an air rifle barrel, but that's a good question. I'm familiar with OAL and seating depth in centerfires, but I suppose it's not all that different.

Well doing leade work(cowboy-ed with a tapered chefs honing steel) helped my ~50 fpe .25 Mrod go from ~1" groups to ~75 groups at 50 yards with the BBT 40g... It had no leade just sharp edged rifling... did also fire lap the barrel a touch with some JB bore paste in hopes of preventing/slowing leading at the choke...
I do think that fpe matters at longer ranges also... difference of a laser-ish trajectory to a more loopy trajectory...
took some time to find a link.
some groups from a more towards 80 fpe armada( same barrels Mrod) in this link... he is sizing to 251(I do not have a .251 sizing die)... I have .248/.249/.2495/.250/.252. my groups open up below .2495 and above .250 but like I said I do not have a .251 sizer... I do think that maybe some barrels/rifles might get best accuracy with rounds size to about .0005... so eventually do want .2505 etc... could just call it .250+ etc... He may do better sized to .250...

Some running choked barrels have done well sizing under and knurling back to size...(may cause more leading tho)...

There's more knowledge here than I could ever absorb. I'm limited on time, so the Qb might be my bullet rifle if the Urban doesn't shoot them well. I'm planning on a higher powered rifle at some point, but it just isn't in the budget at the moment.

As it is it looks like a for sure with the Qb a good hunting round for 20 yards and maybe out to about 40 or so... it really will start dropping after that... bout 10 inches at 50 yards... plinking may be fun further out...
Me I have plans for some .22 barrels for one of my .25 Mrods to get the fpe up...
