"Humm... I down loaded the target and put it on the screen... but I was only able to take one shot before the screen gave out." Thanks, Snakebite.
This reminded me of a time many years ago when I went to the city dump and used discarded TVs as targets. Big implosion.
I had tried it at home but my wife got real upset. Joking!

Shooting air pistols at (very) short 5M range I like the full sized combat targets shrunk down to letter size print paper. Any math wonks who could tell me about how far away a full sized one would have to be to look as small as the ones I have printed on 8 1/2 by 11 at 5M?

This post explains how large to scale a target for different ranges:
10 Meter Air Pistol Targets Scaled for 5 Meters (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=16628.msg142578#msg142578)
You'll need to measure your targets, but from there it's not that hard figure out how far away a normal target would need to be to score equivalent to your smaller close up target. The key is scoring, not visual size, because you can change the size of your target, but you cannot change the size of the pellet you are shooting.

Thanks for all the links to targets :D, got em printed ;) now to rip some paper ;D
Lots of great targets :o ???
I see lots of great targets around here but the neighbors might miss their barky dog :( Or the ones that leave canine land mines in my yard >:(

I just go normal
From time to time ;D ??? :-X

Ed you haven't even seen land mines. Get a 200lb mastiff and then look at the industrial sized land mines in your yard. Not fun smelling those, especially when you step on them or drive over them with the mower wheels. My dog fertilized the yard abundantly well. No more huge dogs for me. hehe

Hey snakebite4767,
Thanks for the link on the targets - much appreciated . . .
Take care,

Thanks for all the targets. In addition, some I also use for the slingshots I've made and bought. :D

So what is the cost ratio for printing targets as apposed to buying them? Has anyone done the math? Laser printer/ink printer. Is there a difference in paper?

I am having a really hard time with these targets. I can bring them up on my screen, take one shot, and then I have to get another monitor.
These targets are way too expensive...

Can you say "free Splatter Targets"

Nice post!
I usually make my own targets. I print them on A4 (standard) printer paper, and I've made my own pellet traps, where these targets fit. I leave you here some pictures of these targets, and the link to my repository where you can download them and print them at will: http://airpressureguns.wordpress.com/targets/paper-targets/ (http://airpressureguns.wordpress.com/targets/paper-targets/)
Enjoy!

Thanks for the post. I like them and bookmarked it.

Hi guys!
Christmas is gone, but I got the time to put up some more fun targets.
These are some of the targets I use in games or "competitions" with friends.
As usual, they are all available for download (for free, ofc) here: http://airpressureguns.wordpress.com/targets/non-classic-paper-targets/ (http://airpressureguns.wordpress.com/targets/non-classic-paper-targets/)
Have fun!
Happy Christmas and a Happy New 2014!
Cheers

Printed some targets and cut them to fit in my pellet trap yesterday ,
yep I should of printed more .
-
Just go to your local Dicks Sporting Goods store.
Don't go in the front, go round back. Slide open the dumpster door & find a register bag - likely there are dozens of them.
Rip it open & find a $10 off $10 purchase coupon.
Go in the front & grab a 20 pack of splatter targets & pay with your coupon.
Not as hard as it sounds.
Haven't bought a target all year!!!
Likely you'll find other good stuff to shoot at too
-
Thanks for all the great links and the advice about trying for some coupons!
-
Printer's ink is more expensive than 12 year old Scotch Whisky. :P
Yeah.
When I bought my new computer, they asked if I needed a printer too, and I figured I would. Guy says, "The printer's free after mail-in rebate." Fine, I took it.
Now I wish they'd made me pay for the printer and given me the ink for free.
-
My daughter in law works for Hewlett-Packard and told me the printers are free because "we make our money on the ink." Local ink refill shops are your friend!
-
It's to bad they don't give you full cartridges when the printers are new. because it's almost more cost affective just to buy a new printer then you could resell the old printer. ;) took early retirement because of the great package 14yrs. ago after 30yrs.

showed this to the wife and said look, I finely got something right lol

If you don't mine black for the targets, get a Laser Printer. I have printed over 1K targets and still on same toner cartridge. I can find toner cartridges down around $15 to $22 for my HP! But only prints black. I don't need color targets to shoot at. They run refurbish printers and toner in the $50.00 range. But beware you are only getting a sample cartridge good for 500 to 1000 pages. But a target takes very little toner.
-
I've gotta remember to pick up some ink for my printer.
-
Thanks!
-
Make today a bad day for paper squirrels!
Open season, no bag limit!
-
Yes,
I purchased a 10 meter rifle target, scanned it. Opened a word document and created a 2 x 2 table and copied the
images into each cell. Picked up some 110 lb paper of my favorite color and then printed on my laser printer.
At $18.00 for 250 sheets I can print targets for 7.2 cents a sheet, 4 targets a sheet.
The extra thick paper makes for nice penetration on the pellets.
I tried to upload the .jpg, but it is too big and GTK will not accept a link to my photobucket site.
Later I will try to reduce the size of the jpg while maintaining the target size and upload.
Thanks
Joe

Joe, a quick way to rack up the posts is to go over to the "Welcome New Members" gate and hand out some welcomes. In no time, you will have 20 or 30 posts and maybe some new friends.

Thanks for all the contributions!
I'm always looking for more targets. And that perfect target. Or at least perfect for me. Just printed out one of the 1" grid, 1/2" bullseye targets.

Lol - I use a dime and an ink pen on an 8 1/2 x 11" sheet of typo paper taped to a cardboard box in front of a good backstop. Sometimes I just draw free-hand. Cheap!

I like these fun, printable targets sometimes, to mix things up. But I find that when I print them on this normal paper I have, it tears, unless it has fresh cardboard backing it up.
If I've got to have fresh cardboard too, it becomes a bit more work.
What I've been doing lately is salvaging white cardboard from work, then drawing circles with big 'Xs' through it with a permanent marker, using something as a template: coins, washers, bottle caps. The 'X', I like better than a crosshairs, like many targets have, because instead of overlapping the reticle on my scope, they tend to "lock it in". I use a Sharpie for drawing the circles, and either the side of the Sharpie or a large chisel-point marker to fill in where needed.
What you end up with is a target with the integrated backer board (no tearing) that is free, except for the markers you need. If you're REALLY cheap, you could even use pen or pencil or crayons, depending on what you have around the house. The tearing is worse with low velocity and with round nosed ammo.
Get up above 600 fps with wadcutters, and even cheap paper should have clean holes, but that's the range where wadcutters don't shoot so well any more. Hollow points work almost as well as wadcutters, and usually handle high velocity better. H&N Baracuda Hunter in .177 are my favorite all-around pellet. They cut clean holes in paper at high velocity, perform well in animals, and fly ALMOST as well as domed pellets at longer ranges.
-
Thanks for the source!
I use printable targets from Targetz.com breakfastchef has it linked in his list. Always find good targets from that site.

I got several thousands of pages of scrap paper from work. Everything is being converted to electronic format. So I cleaned out my cubicle and took the paper that was printed on one side home with me.
The 3-ring notebook dividers made of card stock is fantastic.
The problem with all this scrap paper is that it won't feed through the printer. So I ordered a couple of target stamps from Brownells. One stamp is a 1 MOA target for 100 yards and the other one is 2 MOA. The 2 MOA target could be used as a 2 MOA target at 100 yards or a 1 MOA target at 200 yards.
It took a little getting use to. Sometimes the impression on the paper didn't completely "fill out" as it was intended to appear.
You will have to develop your own technique for stamping the image on the paper but it's worth it.
Nevertheless, I was able to transform about 700-800 pages of scrap paper from work into good working targets.
The 100 yard target stamp, due to its size was easier to use than the 200 yard target stamp. However, I would still recommended both stamps if you want cheap targets and are into recycling.
Here is the link to the target stamps. http://www.brownells.com/shooting-accessories/targets-accessories/target-accessories/target-stamps-prod33159.aspx (http://www.brownells.com/shooting-accessories/targets-accessories/target-accessories/target-stamps-prod33159.aspx)
BTW the photo is misleading. The stamp is all I got. I didn't get an ink pad or ink. I will contact Brownells about that.

I posted this target on a thread in the back room about UFOs but thought I'd post it here for anyone wanting something different.
Please feel free to provide any suggestions for improving the target.
-
I tried the first version of the Area 51 target at a distance of 6 yards with my iron-sighted FWB 300s and only got 44 points. I have to hang my head in shame. As the target's designer I should have shot a perfect score.
So I decided to fix that with a new target that has bigger UFOs that are easier to hit! Seriously; I thought this might be a fun game with an air pistol so that's the real reason for the larger UFOs. On the other hand, the competitors could use version 2 of this target with their air rifles at longer distances or anyway the desire.
As always, I'm open to suggestions to improve these targets. Enjoy.

Thanks for the link Jerry. Just customized these two. Looking forward to trying them out. Just copy paste the link & if you like them their ready to print.

Marty, while things located on your C:/ may be visible to you, they aren't to the rest of us.
The file called "C:/Users/Owner" is your internal hard drive on your computer.
-
Thanks for the heads up Scott. Lemesee if I can build them again...
...Lets try this; click on the link; http://printtargets.net/ (http://printtargets.net/)
These are the only five catagories you need to change;
1. Slide bar on both "Columns & Rows" to 4 (or 4 columns & 5 rows to save on paper)
2. Mark "ANSI D"
6. Click on "red square" then click on black range in the color image
11. Click on "red square" then click on black range in the color image
13. My number arrangement is left to right...Click left then on "Filled Circles" & click on black in the color image
& last, hit "Build PDF Target" & you're ready to print.
I choose blk to save on color ink plus I think it's easier to pick up. If you'd like to add even smaller targets, simply change #1 to 5 on both Columns & Rows & select "ANSI E".

Since the weather has been bad outside, I've had a lot of time on my hands. Attached are a couple of other target/shooting games.
It is an adaptation of the wack-a-mole game that is usually found in the arcade except that it is done with airguns.
As always, please feel free to provide suggestion to improve the targets.
-
Here is one version of the targets I tried to upload for you from the customize your own target site. These can sure test your nerves. If you'll notice the bulls-eye is the same size, maybe a tad smaller than a .20 cal pellet. I could not pick up zero from 25yds so once my cross-hairs blacked out the center white I squeezed.
Used my '75 Silver Streak topped off with a modest 2X20mm Swift pistol scope. 8 pumps, JSB Exact 13.73gr.

Just took a look! R U kidding me? I can't compete w/those guns. :o :o :o
Is there a punnie pumper class?
HOWEVER...I would like to know what you pros recommend for a high resolution, fine tune pistol scope? ;)
-
Dude, it's all in fun.
AND it's only 10 meters. C'mon You can do it!
AND there is a pistol class... my last score was 156 I think... hoping to improve before Sunday. ::)
That is a good point there is no time limit, your pumper would be a PCP class I bet.
I will contact JimQwerty123 to see if we can do a Pumper or Vintage class

I'm wanting to head over to that other side to see what you guys r shooting to get results like that. Took the wind out of my sails sum-thin quick. But then again I don't know if I should. You know me, all in or not at all. That could break the bank! ???

I PM'ed ya.

Thank you all for the links to the targets. TATER, I’ve already marked my spot on the map. If anyone is nearby in Va, how about a shoot? No rush. Just wanna have some fun.

Some of you may remember the children's story about the "Three Billy Goats Gruff." Google it if you don't then you can tell it to your children or grandchildren.
Attached is a fun target to commemorate the story. You will note that the target has more than one troll. The original story had only one troll.
Well, in the story behind this target, the deceased troll came from a big family. His brothers appear in this target seeking revenge. They are after the billy goats on the bridge.
Your mission, Mr. Phelps, should you accept it; is to eliminate all the trolls before they can get to the three billy goats. Head shots are desirable with a score of 10 points each. A shot on any other part of the body is worth 5 points. If you hit any of the billy goats then subtract 20 points from your score.
Some of you may have a child that is begging to shoot your very, very expensive PCP. This is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the concept of sharing with them. Tell them to clean off all the sticky stuff they may have on their hands and faces from eating yummy treats from Mommy's kitchen. Then they can shoot your PCP (from the bench). Let them have some fun at sharp-shooting the trolls.
If the child has an airgun of their own this a great time to let them have fun practicing on something other than a plain old bulls-eye.
As always, any suggestions to improve these targets would be greatly appreciated. If you have any ideas for any other fun targets, please let me know. I will see what I can come up with.
Edit: I added another target. This one isn't as cluttered as the last one as I removed the grass.
-
I'm on a roll when it comes to making up targets this evening.
Who doesn't hate snakes? Who especially doesn't hate snakes when they are a danger to you or someone else?
Like all the the other targets that I've produced, this one can be shot at from any distance with either pistol or rifle. Either way, it might be fun to play as a game with other shooters. Make it a timed shooting event. Each shooter gets a certain number of shots for so many seconds.
Put some money on the game and the pressure is on.
The attached targets are self-explanatory. Just save the baby from the snakes. I've provided a color version and a black & white version.
-
Very simple target, 12 per 8.5x11 page.
Send me a private message if you want the SVG (vector-based) version.
-
My brother-in-law makes his own that look something like this:

__________|___________

|
They are about three inches across and three inches tall with marks every inch across and up/down. It is very easy to see how far off center you are hitting and make adjustments.
-
Like this?
-
Or is it more like this?
-
Yeah, like those.
At a glance from 30ish yards, one can easily see how far off center the pellet is hitting.
-
Any way OP could add a link to my site in the thread? Would be extremely appreciative! ;D
-
Brandon, I would think with 34 post you should be able to ad a link to your site.
If not for some reason, PM it to me and I will put it up here for you.
Heck, I think you could add it to your profile and it will appear under your avatar on all your posts. ;)

Boy, I sounded like a Jerk... not the way it was intended at all.
So sorry Frank. Good luck on your search.

Thanks for the info.... The printer is working hard tonight!
-
Dan I recently bought a laser printer and have really been enjoying my home printed targets. I've always wanted a laser printer but never thought it would be worth until I seen the recent prices. I bought one for a little over $100 and it's doing a great job on both targets and prints. What I really like about them too is the fact that toner won't dry up like an inkjet cartridge will.
-
Thanks for the links mate , i was struggling for finding target , you made my day
-
Thanks for the links.
-
^ nice user name there Paul!
Does it really work?
-
Been tired of staring at the same bull targets so I quickly made something different in which someone can call out a shape, color, letter, number, etc. single/sequence for both long/short distance rifle/pistol training. Came up with this. Welcome to improvements or mods. Have fun, be safe and enjoy!
ALL Targets are 1" except:
Red Square: 1.5"
Sun: 1" Center circle - 2" outer
Actual size it dependant on printer settings. These SHOULD work at 100% Scale as they did on mine. ;)
-
Thanks for sharing your small circle targets, Ed.

Subscriber and Ed,
Thanks for posting these in PDF.
I shoot this type target periodically after reading one of Eds post, and they are a challenge at 30 yds but I believe a great exercise.

This is one of my favorite 25 yd/m targets for just having fun or shooting groups. 63 targets about 1/2 inch each.

I have no idea where to post this but I feel that a a post labeled "Free Targets should get a lot of traffic so here I am looking for help.
Now here is the real question that we have: the young man that has the distinction of being our one and only Ranch Hand just purchased a brand new Ruger Air Hawk Elite II .177 caliber Air Rifle. As luck would have it, Froy got tied up with some problems and he left his rifle out in the rain. By the time he showed it to me, the barrel was heavily rusted. Since nothing in his owner's manual said anything about his barrel being stainless, or other exotic, we promptly sanded the barrel down and applied Birchwood Casey Super Blue Liquid Gun Blue and found that we had created an even bigger mess! Can anyone shed some light on this to assist our poor Ranch Hand in solving his problem? He was so happy and proud when he got that Air Rifle. Any and all inputs and information will be deeply appreciated. Thanks and so happy to join this forum.

Go to Youtube and look up unionrdr's channel. You'll find my videos on restoring various air rifles. Bluing and stock work among them.

Talk about a thread derail!
Frank this is so off topic, you need to start a new thread in the Airgun general discussion gate. You will get much more help there.
This thread is for people looking for printable targets. Not to assist with refinishing. So your post will not be seen by the people who can help you most in the topic you are describing.... and get the attention it deserves.
Think topic, not traffic.
If the posts here continue on your topic this thread will take a total change of course (derail) from it's intended purpose.

Hi everyone,
A while back I found some very old pellet targets on the web. The problem was they were created on a program called Xfig, which isn't around any longer so I had no way to update or modify them so I decided to recreate them using PowerPoint.
These are NOT my idea. I did NOT create it, only copied the design from the original creator. A man named Bob Friesenhahn gets full credit for these since he is the one who created them in the first place. The targets he created that are floating around on the web are fuzzy and a bit out of focus so I wanted to sharpen them up a bit. I like to think I have done him proud with what I've done. So without further ado... Here it is for your shooting enjoyment. Now you can edit these however you like and just print all you want. :)
I'm adding a couple screenshots so you can see what it looks like. :)
Just download, unzip and you're ready to go.
Enjoys fellas.

Thanks, I enjoy that target and it was ubiquitous 15 years ago but very hard to find a year ago! I had an old printed one and scanned it but now I have a fresh high resolution one. Appreciated!

Yeah, every version of it I could find was a bit fuzzy when printed. Also since I wasn't going to go through the hassle of setting up an old program called Xfig, there was now way to edit or update the original file.
I didn't feel the need to add all the extra text and fields that was on the original so I just left it off. Now at least if someone wants to add it back they can do it easily. :)
The targets are 1" squares, the red dots are 1/4" and the tiny grids are 0.125". Not that anyone will need anything that precise. Hehehe. The Focus patch is also 1" now.
-
Thank you for going to the trouble. Not all of us are software gurus - or even competent.

About a year ago I was desperate and scanned an old one I had so I could print more. Then was so cheap with the printing and lazy to replace the used targets, I inserted 2 more rows of squares. May do the same with your version. I dont think the version I made (see attached) is to scale.

Pretty sure I found these in one of the target gates.

Here are a couple of targets I created. I have posted them as jpg's and pdf's
I was into darts in college, so the dartboard target should add some fun to the target shooting. Designed for 17" x 11" Tabloid size paper
The regular range target has a .177(4.5) internal black dot surrounded by a .22(5.5) white outline. Then the red bullseye is .5", yellow including a black outline is 1", white, 1.5" and black at 2". I thought the red reticle lines might help with the scope or hold alignment, and it is all positioned over a 1/4" graph. Designed for 11" x 8.5" Letter size paper
I have been spending a lot of time scouring the threads as I wait for my Diana 48 (That's on backorder). There's tons of good information on this site and I wanted to give back.

I'd rather drink the Whiskey tho!
That's what happens when you respond to a new post and don't go to the last page..... That Whiskey is 21 yrs old now... ::)

I've been buying stick on "shoot and see" style targets from that goofy website Temu. Dirt cheap and they are actually great quality. The 3in targets come in a roll of 100 for $3.50.
-
I use these targets. Although they are 360 stickers per pack, using the black parts between the dots will yield 750 targets.
Don't know why I can not post a link. These targets are the orange 1 inch peal and stick from Birchwood Casey.

If anyone is like me, they like the KYL targets. So I thought about combining the hostage target shooting game with KYL.
The attachment has the target, the rules and a score sheet with pre-printed values to help make scoring and calculations easier.
Any suggestions or feedback is greatly appreciated.
Printing suggestions. Select actual size. The bullet holes are more uniform if printed on cardstock. So only print the first page on card stock. The rules and score sheet can be printed on plain paper if you wish to save on cardstock.
Here are the rules:
This target is designed for very accurate scoped rimfire rifles or air-rifles at an agreed upon distance, usually 50 yards for rimfire rifles and 25 for the air-rifles.
Each competitor gets one shot at each hostage target.
The targets are arranged from largest to smallest from the upper left corner proceeding clockwise around the paper.
Start shooting at the target in the upper left corner.
The number of points for each target is to the upper left of the target.
A shot in any part of the kidnapper’s body is worth the number of points indicated for the respective target.
A headshot in the kidnapper is worth double the points. For example, if the shot is taken at the one worth 10 points, the shooter is awarded 20 points for that target.
Note that the competitor may want to accumulate as many points as possible by trying headshots on the largest target. As the target gets smaller the shooter may want to try a hit in the right shoulder and/or arm of the kidnapper. This increases the hit probability but reduces the chance of a miss or hitting the hostage.
Starting with the largest target a hit on any part of the body of the kidnapper allows the shooter another chance to shoot at the next smaller target.
If the shooter misses the kidnapper or hits the hostage, he or she may not take anymore shots and they lost any points accumulated and forfeits the rest of the competition.
If the bullet cuts the line of the hostage that is considered a hit.
If the bullet cuts the line of the kidnapper that is considered a hit.
If the shooter has not shot at all the targets, they may decide to stop where they are at and keep whatever points accumulated. A person has to know their limits.
The competitor with the most points wins.
ONE SHOT GRAND SLAM: One variant of the game is played with a competitor taking one shot at a target that they announce. They select the smallest target that they are confident of hitting.
If they hit the target, they accumulate all the points for that target and the larger ones that they would have hit.
If the hit is in the head then it is assumed that prior shots were in the head and double points are awarded for each target.
If the hit is in any other part of the body then only the value for each target is awarded.
Total all the points and multiply that result by three.
Example 1: The shooter selects the middle target in the bottom row and hits the elbow. The shooter is awarded 53 X 3 = 159 points.
Example 2: The shooter selects the middle target in the bottom row and hits the head. The shooter is awarded 106 X 3 = 318 points.
A score sheet is provided with points for each target.
If you really want to introduce stress into the game put money on it!

LOL... It's free now. I went to the site and "clipped" the picture. I'll resize it to fit on card stock and print my own. :-X
