A Kayak and New Hunting Permission

I bought a fishing kayak from a gentleman 5 minutes from home. He owns about 5 acres with large pecan trees on it. After loading the kayak in my truck, we talked for over 30 minutes about everything. As I left, he noticed the squirrel hunter sticker in my back window and called me. He said I can hunt his property anytime.
I also found a small pecan grove 2 miles from home. The owners have signs out selling the nuts. There are about 30 good sized trees and they're out there picking them almost every day. I think I need to visit them and offer my free services protecting their crop from squirrels.

Congrats on the kayak, and especially the permission.
I remember my F-I-L told me about 20 years ago when they had a property in Ga. with lots of pecan trees and lots of squirrels. He said a County Agricultural Agent told him that a single squirrel could eat up to a 100#'s of pecans a year. They didn't harvest them commercially, and only picked up enough for personal use. So it didn't concern him much.

Oriental is over run with squirrels. Pecan trees are everywhere. Our daughter is renting a house and the pecan tree has a 43" diameter trunk. Unfortunately where we're building our house, there aren't any pecan trees.

Thanks for posting this. It reminded me of several pecan orchards I know of. I’ll have to look into this further.
