No love for the 840?
AKM:
I see a lot of Red Ryder posts but very little 840 posts.
I have two that I bought at Coast To Coast hardware in the early 80's for 19.99 each.
They are still going strong with very little maintenance. The grand kids love them, way more accurate then the Red Ryder and sized well for both adults and kids.
Sometimes I'm amazed at how accurate they are for a low power smooth bore.

My first BB gun was a Daisy Quick Silver, a black / silver colored variant. It is still in the family and has only been rebuilt once. Great little gun, like you said, very accurate for a low powered smooth bore.

I wound up with a 856 camo one day. It still shoots pretty well despite having done NOTHING to it. Stonykill was lusting over it one day. ;D

The 840 is OK....til it isn't....
The valve body is plastic and prone to cracking.
Once it cracks, it leaks and renders the rifle inoperative.
Basically a throw-away at that point IMO.
Other than that.........

Ahhh my favorite rifle of all time! My first gun as a kid. Have owned many over the years.
Definitely a gateway drug! Haha
Hadn't shot in 20 years, my wife wanted to get rid of about 100 place servings of useless dishes. Didn't take me long to grab a couple of them at the old big box store and have a blast! Don't worry we didn't leave any trash, needless to say both me and my wife now spot several airguns and still never forget to bring the pumpers.
