Measured against my Wika 2" gauge, my Escape gauge is low by almost 200 psi so time for replacement. Interested in recommendations for replacement...digital?

Steve, my RAW's mini gauge is off by 20 bar and the only other gauge that would fit (23mm) is a Huma. You could replace yours with a Sekmet or just an analog Wika, I would opt for a non battery Wika.

Thanks Randall, according to Talon Tunes website the threads that fit the Airforce tank are NPT type and I could not find a Wika or Huma unit in NPT. Talon tunes has one that will fit, just hoping to find one with a little more finess in displayed psi.

I just bought a couple of the
Air Marksman
digital gauges. They have a decimal point for a little more accuracy, (that is, xxx.x)
According to the 2-1/5" dia Wika, fill cylinder gauge, they are VERY...close.
There's also the smaller Wika gauges that you can buy, and plug right in.
Be sure to buy a gauge with more pressure capability than the pressure that you actually need. It's an overall, accuracy thing ! That is, if you need a 250 bar fill, buy a 300 bar gauge. Or if you need a 300 bar fill, buy the 315 bar fill gauge.
I thought of making a manifold to test a couple of gauges at a time. Buy a "certified"...accurate gauge, and use that as the test gauge, and test the gun gauges against that. Replace the gauges that I have, that are bad.
I like to pay attention to the details, and the accuracy. Some don't care !!

Hi Mike, thanks for the information, it looks like the Air Marksman digital might be an option. Did you purchase yours directly from them or from a dealer. None of the dealers I saw listed the NPT version for sale, just the 1/8 bsp.

you could call Air Force and tell them the gauge went bad, they'll most likely send you a new one, the lady who handles the warranty part is a really nice lady and very helpful, she'll get you set up.

Kevin, not a bad idea to contact Airforce, I'm sure they could fix me up with another OEM gauge. I am leaning towards experimenting with a digital first though.

My first question when dealing with gauges is: How do you know either gauge is accurate?
I say this as the guy who ran the gauge-calibration program on my sub (among my many collateral duties). Bourdon tubes can be measured for deflection; thus get one gauge calibrated by a pro shop and then compare to the others. I like Mike's idea, for sure!

I wonder how long before someone makes a small, accurate bluetooth sensor that connects to a phone?

Peter, you are of course correct, how do you know which gauge is the most accurate... What I am doing is comparing my external WICA gauge, the gauge on my compressor, the gauge on my two hand pumps, and the guages on my buddy bottle to the gauges on my rifles. The WICA, compressor, hand pumps and buddy bottle all fairly closely agree with each other, but the rifle gauge is between 200-250 psi different than the rest so I feel comfortable that it is probably incorrect...

Get a known tested/calibrated gauge and go from there.

Steve,
Check the advertised specification for your gauge. If it's 10%, then it should read between 2700 and 3300 when it's filled to 3000 PSI. If it's a 5% gauge, it should read between 2850 and 3150 when filled to 3000 PSI. If one gauge is off by 50 psi low, while another gauge is off by 5% high, then they are both in spec but show a 200 PSI difference.
I think that a lot of people wish that their gauge was 1%.

Morning Hunter, I appreciate your insight good sir. The good news is that I am not comparing one gauge against another, but comparing multiple gauges against the one on the rifle. My 2.5 inch WIKA has high accuracy ratings, and I tend to compare all the others to it. The OEM gauges on pumps, compressors, tanks, guns etc. rarely have published accuracy numbers, and I doubt that I can even detect 50 psi differences on the smaller gauges. But 200+ psi tends to stand out...
I did order and have received another gauge from Talon Tunes and will install it on the Escape during the next 5 day rain event which starts tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing the results

Got the Talon Tunes gauge installed and it tracks much more closely with my other gauges. The downside is that the gauge is 5000 psi, the same physical size as the Airforce 3000 psi gauge, and the graduation markings are smaller, making it harder to see...
Still may eventually invest in a digital gauge to try them out.

. . . The downside is that the gauge is 5000 psi. . .
If you ever sell this rifle be sure to have instructions on fill pressure. O.E.M gauges generally have green, and Red to indicate ok or not ok.

Makes good sense considering many PCP rifles these days can be filled to 4500 psi.

Sqeeze the outside of gauge with pliers and the glass will pop off then move the face to position and pop glass back on. Done it many times.

Thanks for that hint Travis, but the issue is not the orientation of the gauge, but the fact that the markings on the gauge are just small and pretty close together and my 70 year old eyes have to look pretty close to see them.
I have the same issue with the gauges on my buddy bottle fill tank. Like everything else, I just have to slow down a bit and let my eyes catch up...
