Title: TX stock fab. GinB copy.
Post by: T-Higgs on December 16, 2018, 11:16:28 PM
So the UK gate has been super slow lately so I thought I’d post this little project.

I’m a lefty shooter and acquired a left handed Ginb teak stock a while back. It’s very rare here in the US to not only have a ginb but a left handed one to boot. I love the stock, and as a woodworker, I had to respectfully coppythe stock for myself.

I found a suitable walnut blank and made my patern. With careful cutting, grinding, sanding, cursing, sanding, laminating, sanding, and copious amounts of SANDING I feel I made a decent copy.

I know lots of y’all really like stocks finished naturally with no stain but I love color so I stained this one fairly dark. It’s has huge contrast with the maple grip cap, palm rest and fore end caps. I’m letting the finish cure for several days then I’ll put the action into the stock. Soon, I’ll have a 22mm conversion kit to put into the action.  It’s a kit I’ve wanted for a long time and I think now is a good time to do it. Chatted with Tony leach a bit on Friday and we’ll soon have it figured out.

Click on the pics to right there orientation. I drives me crazy that most of my pics end up 90 degrees turned.

Spectacular! I'd love to feel that one in my hands. It has that "I can't put it down" look.

Wow, beautiful work!!!  Definitely worthy of the 22mm kit.  What buttpad did you put on the stock?

A Gehmann 843s. I purchased it from nikkonos on eBay. They are out of Canada and had the best price after currency exchange. I love it. I have a similar gehmann on my Steyr ten meter rifle. Little pricey but very nice.

Would you mind measuring the length and width of the plate that goes up against the stock?  Also, what is the thickness (I want to know how this affects the LOP)?

Thanks!

Just what I needed to know!  It looks about 4.5"L X 1"W X 1.5"T(+LOP)

That's perfect - THANK YOU!
