Ok. I'm reading back through that thread for the umpteenth time. It's finally starting to make sense. So you bevel the area of the hammer that contacts the trigger stay. How much to remove? How much does it reduce the trigger travel? It's approximately 1/4" travel now. Got a nice positive click feel now that the flat spring has been removed. Loving it!Do you also modify the trigger by removing 1/2" or does the hammer bevel take care of it?Thanks for all the help!Put the tape on the barrel this morning in two places, so it's a nice snug fit everywhere. I'll load pix later. Thanks for the comps on the new pin. It should work out fine. I've polished both pins too. That buffing wheel is coming in handy...
So I finally realized what Tom was saying about making a bevel on the hammer. I'm wondering if it's enough? (Not re-polished yet)And notice I filed off the step on the trigger. I'm still wondering if I need to file off more on that part also? I'm asking because it seems like the travel is still the same... Maybe the trigger just stops in the same place, but released the hammer sooner?
I always overthink everything Tom... What else am I gonna do? The butt stock and receiver parts don't come til Monday or Tuesday...
Oh, I'm having fun with it. I just don't wanna make another order to Daisy if I can help it. But those nutters are taunting me every morning while I put this thing back together... And I don't have a replacement gun yet. And I don't dare use my .22 in the neighborhood.
I was wondering something else... why electrical tape? Doesn't the electrical tape mod kinda get "melty" over the years? Do you ever have to renew the tape? If so, perhaps I'd be better off making that spacer out of some plastic?
Sorry,Underdog, I can't do pix. But I have been following yours, which are great! And for Midwestairgunner, I never actually thinned my hammer, I just deburred and polished the heck out of everything. Anyway, the trigger is a lot lighter. Have to try it on the new one.Filling the stock on my new one made a big difference in balance. My older one wears a stock from a much earlier model, that was foam filled, but it has the weight from being metal/metal.
Those who are slimming down the hammer "step" what kind of profile are you giving it?
Youdidn't hardly step that hammer at all. If you go wayback in the thread, page 2 maybe, and you will see bigtinboat and I discussing this. You can clearly see the angle in yellow on one of Robs posts. That is beautiful, but you didn't do much at all to reduce the trigger travel.
