Todd,
I guess you could compare the Marauder to the 1911 pistol platform. Are they the best? No. Do they use the latest advances in gun technology. No again. But people love them and they have a following.
There are better options. But if you can find a Marauder for $300 there are worse options to spend $300 on.
But I get where you are coming from. The first marauder I bought went back after a day because it felt like a log. It was heavy and bulky.
I do currently have .25 synrod that I bought from the classifieds because it was a good deal. I haven't shot it beyond test firing for function.
I am spoiled by my modded Air Arms T200. I have all kinds of rifles but I keep coming back to it because nothing I have matches it for easy handling and weight. The best part is that its origins date back to around the 1990's.
It's perfect for me.
Thanks,
Taso

The other part of why Mrods... I have Two .25s... they are very accurate and with no mods have the power to send heavy pellets and lighter cast rounds... There is an encyclopedia set worth of knowledge of mods and maintenance because the platform has been around for a while... then there is the ease and reasonable cost of parts from crosman with their excellent customer service.... Been around since 1920's also...
I like BSA also, parts some but $$... In ten years will there be Hatsan, KRal and Chinese parts for the rifles they have sold now..?

Taso1000;
That’s reasonable, some items just have a very faithful following. I have to admit, if I saw a P-rod with an AR stock I’d be interested in putting on a longer barrel, and getting it up to 20-25 FTLbs. But at the Pyramid Air price of $580 just for the gun... that’s never going to happen. Besides, if I did all that, I’d basically end up with another Urban. Bottom line, I found this sport/hobby at just the right time, because if it weren’t for all these great inexpensive PCPs I would never have been a part of it.

Marauders were the first PCP repeaters from Crosman in the "budget class". They are easy to modify and work on. The parts are easily attainable along with the mods to enhance them for much increased power or shot count. The synthetic weight is average to better than many, but now a little more than the new "budget guns" in some cases. It's true that there are many new guns out now than in the past in the "budget" class, but Crosman and the Marauder was the only one attainable just a few years ago. Hence why I jumped in. Many are trying to at least equal the success the Marauders have had. I'm not so sure that is possible anymore with all of the choices nowadays. So pick your poison. There are more choices than ever now in the "budget class", so no more excuses not to jump in on a PCP.
