mr007s and JonnyReb,
Good to hear from folks in NC. I hope we can build some interest and get the attention of other folks in NC. Who knows, maybe we can get some groups together and do some shooting.

Well there will be a nice shoot in may at Genes residence.. http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/topic,8550.0.html (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/topic,8550.0.html)

This will be one you might not want to miss. Also, i shoot sometimes on the 50/100 yard range at Uwharrie nat'l forest, which is maybe halfway from me to you. It's a newer facility, in the middle of a beautiful 25,000 acres and on the weekdays not a soul is there. It's absolutely deserted everytime i go on a mon-thursday.You and anybody else could meet out there sometime, it would be a great place for a group shoot and it's in the center of the state.

Man, there are quite a few folks from NC on here. I would definitely like to try to put together a group shoot at some point. For you folks in the RTP and the area around it I have a reasonably good backyard range (tops out at 25 yards though) set up on my property that can accommodate 5-6 folks on the firing line at a time. I am out there pretty much as often as weather and chores permit and would be more than happy to have folks come out and shoot.

most of you may already know but a reminder that there is an online fun match of about any configuration you can imagine on this wonderful site. an organized shoot  in person would be fun. let me encourage you to participate in the online honor matches too. some of them aren't very busy and could use our support, besides it's fun and good practice.

Hello to all,
I am fairly new to air guns, I recently purchased a G1 extreme, then a crosman titan VP, bought and returned a Benjamin NP all weather stock and I now have a TX 200 mark III which I have been enjoying and hitting most anything I want. I am in the Raleigh area and would enjoy shooting somewhere locally….My name is Mike.

Hey to all North Carolinians! I appreciate all of the welcome responses. It took me a while to get back to the GTA forum's forgot my password and user ID, lol! Anyhow, I have been covertly plinking whenever possible. ***I have been shooting my TX200 .22 caliber and have successfully zeroed my scope (4x16x50 Leapers mildot). I know I have the AG bug when I am shooting old vitamin capsules from 60 feet! I also enjoy shooting tum's tablets or the caps off of bottled water containers. So far, the TX enjoys JSB diablo exacts 1030g and RWS super points 14.5.

Look forward to any thoughts or comments about the TX, pellets or shooting sometime.

PS I am a member at eagle one and the wake county sheriff gun facility in apex. I would enjoy shooting openly in a backyard environment and try out the 50-75yd range to test for accuracy.

Mike

Guys,

I'm in the Raleigh area. It would be great to be able to arrange to have shooting events and maybe even form a club or several clubs in the future!

It would probably be most practical to form clubs based on the location of members, rather than trying to form one large group.

The local/regional clubs could always form a larger organization later on.

I am busy alot of weekends with our youth from church and trying to figure out a time plus trying to figure out how I would set up shooting ranges to accomadate everyone. I live in raleigh near the airport just off highway 70.  I'd love to meet up and shoot!  You ever visit the wake county range in apex?  They're mostly firearms guys but it's an excellent range and I have a blast shooting all my guns, PBs or airguns.  Let me know and maybe we can work something out.

A few years ago I applied for a handgun purchase permit in Wake county. At that time they gave me a handful of papers with various gun laws. Amongst them were a few things concerning airguns. If you are shooting on your property (or others with proof of permission) and the pellets do not leave the property, AND the velocity is 600 FPS or less it is legal to shoot an airgun in close proximity to houses and roads. Over 600 FPS and they are classed with firearms as to where you can shoot. Had a deputy sheriff stop by one day while we were shooting. Once he was sure we had pellet guns and not ".22's" he was happy and went on his way. Didn't check the velocity though. Other counties may be different.

Thanks for the welcome!
Is there any outline for the airgun shooting laws here in NC?  If there is it's not easy to find... it's almost like they hide it intentionally so they can give you a fine.

Sounds like a county ordinance for sure.  It is not a NC law to my knowledge.  I think it airs on common sense when shooting just like powder guns...............know your backdrop!

Obviously the quieter your gun the least attention you draw.  That said, I shot a frozen 1 liter plastic bottle yesterday in my hood and it sounded like a .22 rim fire when it impacted the bottle!  Surprised me to say the least.

I doubt if NC has their cops carrying chronographs to measure pellet or BB gun velocities   ;-)

The bottom line is - Shoot safe, shoot smart, don't P.O. the neighbors, no alcohol before or during shooting . . . If the cops show up, be friendly and invite them to give it a try (low-powered gun), offer them a cold drink and a couple of Hot Dogs . . . Problem solved 99% of the time !

it took me the longest time to get used to my mrod being so quiet. it gives the perception that it's barely shooting because of it being quiet. with out a chrony and someone unfamiliar with a shrouded pcp, most would think it's shooting maybe 300 fps. ;D

Congrats! That's awesome. I was involved in CCS/AMA between '97 and 2000. I used to live in Chicago and ran "Profile Motorsports Services". It was a chassis/suspension shop. We did lots of the midwest races, but didn't venture out to the left or right coasts. I had a rider named Todd Fowler who was a 600ss/sb rider. He did really well. Once he stopped racing, it was too hard for me to do it all by myself. In fact, me and Max McAllister (Traxxion Dynamics) started at the same time. We hung out at Race Tech in CA a lot and became friends. He's a good guy.
But now, I'm just building bikes for fun. Working on a boardtrack-style bike now. It'll be built for the parkway... fully rigid, single cyl, super simple, etc.
Again, awesome job!
BTW, what did you ride in Light Weight SB?

i had the trickest nt650 around. only thing honda was the crank, cases, frame, swing arm. f2 front end, adjustable triple tree, marchesini wheels, set of flat slide keihin's, carbon tank, full body work (unpainted) kiyo watanabe in CA built the engine to my liking (not a big bore and lots of rpm's). i put a lot of time and $$$ into that one. man do i miss that bike it was so much fun. ;D ;D
i know Max, he used to come talk to me some. he always cracked on my suspension (super soft) and wanted to change it. lol :D ;D those were the good ole days. ;D

@ Pyr0Monk3y    never been on the dragon. did a lot of street racing on 181. luckily i lived through it. after they talked me into start racing, i stopped riding like an idiot on the road. i get into it too much. i couldn't take a casual ride through the dragon or any other road as such. after about 3 turns it would be on like donkey kong. and knowing this i avoid putting myself in that situation for my own safety reasons. like taking an alcoholic to the bar for "A" beer. lol :D :D ;D just don't work out that way.
Title: Re: Folks from NC
Post by: filteredsoul on April 30, 2012, 11:16:57 AM
That's funny! Max was like that with EVERYONE! As an example... I had my rider on 8kg/m fork springs on his F2 and he LOVED them. Max would always start with 9.5's! Regardless of the bike, weight of rider, etc... I tried everything on that bike and Todd liked his set up soft too.

As for the Dragon, there are TONS of local roads around Asheville that are as good or better... and no one knows about them. Nothing like going all the way to the Dragon and having to share it with vacationing mini-vans and Harley riders (not that I have anything against mini-vans...)  ;D

Sorry everyone... back to air guns. Digression over.

I'm also new to the area, and distance is measured differently!
'A couple of miles', could mean 5!
'Follow that road out to the end'...could mean 20+!

'Take a right at Chreech's Four Corners'...but there is no sign!

But I love it down here, stopping, asking for directions might take a few minutes more, everyone asks where I'm from, where I live now, just want to know if they have 'kin' near me, but I'm assured of getting directions to a good fishing pond/lake!

filteredsoul, funny you mentioned an old boardtrack style bike, I was just reminiscing with an old carnival motordrome stunt rider...in the show, I used to ride an old Scout in a motordrome.
He's still doing it, as the STAR Rider, he rides an old Chief!
Yeah, I used to race too, up at Louden NH, (just regional) before it was a 'Bike Week' for T&A!
Title: Re: Folks from NC
Post by: filteredsoul on April 30, 2012, 12:33:45 PM
In my case, when someone asks you where you're from and you say "Chicago", I get one of 2 responses...
The first is: Cool! What's it like with all those people? Did you ever go to Cubs/Bulls/Sox games?...
The second is: "dang" Yankee! Movin' down here an takin all our jobs!
So now, if I'm asked, and I sense that I'm being judged, I'll just say "Jackson County."
Don't know where Jackson County is -or if it exists, but they usually don't either. They just say "oh yeah..."
Nice, generic answer.

Fishbone, the old carnival rider wasn't "Lucky" Lott was it? THAT dude is a LEGEND! All those guys rode Indians -usually Scouts. They were easier to ride no-handed. (more stable) The frame geometry was different from the Harleys and were the preferred bike for spheres of death, crashing thru flaming walls, etc.

filteredsoul, I think Lucky was out of Canada.
We all used different stage names when 'roaming' outside our territory.
My buddy was 'Jay Lightning' and I was his halfbreed brother 'Johnny Lightning'!
Native American headbands, war hoops, we played it up!
My favorite trick was standing on the seat...facing backwards! Could do it without thinking, you wouldn't believe how easy they are for trick riding.

As far as the Dam Yankee...you know the difference between a Yankee and a DAM Yankee?
A Yankee comes down her, fishes, hunts, drink some shine and goes home...a dam Yankee doesn't leave!

That's AWESOME!
I have a book at home that profiles some of the more "colorful" characters from the old motorcycle days... Lucky Lee was one of them, of course Evel Knievel, and others...
I love that old stuff.
As for the Yankees... So far I'm one of the DAM kind...

Not to be in competition or trying to lure folks from the GTA.  But I have started a NC Airgunners forum to work in conjunction with this great forum to demographically make the NC contingent much stronger.  Back in 2008 myself with a few visionary type folks started a WNC Airgun Club.  Around 20 members but did not survive due to the economy.  I have since then decided to get the area revived through a NC specific forum to give those GTA members here a more localized place to share ideas and meets.  This site is not and will not be a substitute for the GTA which is the best site on the net.  It is a sub forum you might say to go to once in a while to get NC people up and meeting.

So here is the link and please join if you wish, if not and you care not to, that is okay as well.

The new NC specific site (www.ncairgunners.com (http://www.ncairgunners.com)) is now upgraded to have a few more options.  If you register please remember the foillowing:  what ever e-mail you use a confirmation link will be sent to that address for you to link to to get signed in!  It is confusing with the ads and the ad on the confirmation link but there is nothing I can do about that ad or the ad on the site even with paying premium service.  This is how they are able to offer a free site for the most part.

Thank you-

BTW: I'm looking for a place to fill 4500 psi tanks before I buy one. I know there is a shop in Raleigh but don't know if any places in my neck have been checked to see if they will do it. If you know of any LMK.

Any paintball field should be able to fill one or at the very least point you in the right direction.  Some guys get them filled at their local fire station.  Trade the firemen lunch for a skuba tank fill about once a month and you're good to go.

Hi,
I am located in Wake Forest and just seeing who else on here might be residing in the great state of North Carolina.
I'm from the little village of Rougemont about half was between Durham and Roxboro.

Just a reminder about the newly formed Tar Heel Air Gun Club (THAGC) and I recently shot hunter class field target (piston class) that was held in Selma, NC. This was the first field target match of the new club.

Here is the link to the new airgun club for all interested.....
http://www.thagc.com/ (http://www.thagc.com/)

Since this is a new club passing dates are being considered and being passed around. Currently looking at least two dates at Chris's place in Mount Pleasant, and a few more between Selma and another location that's being identified near Bunn as I understand it.

I would really like to know a few more of the NC GTA shooters at the field target matches.

For those unfamiliar with field target, it AIN'T a high stressed cut-throat competion that needs a several thousand dollar rig to compete! Just "run with what ya brung" and have some fun shootin' with other airgunners. LOL.....if you check out the scores at the first THAGC match you'll notice that the second place hunter class winner was shooting a B26 with a Xisico 3-9x40 scope.........LOL, how basic can you get?  :o

The NC airgun site is up to 80 members.  If anyone here would like to join please do so.  It is free of course and more localizes NC contingent.  We do not compete to draw members from the GTA but to add to the airgun community for NC.  So please feel free to sign on and use both resources.

Hey everyone another NC'er here, Jonesville to exact. Had a Gamo silent cat and returned it due to not realizing what it takes to shoot a modern air rifle. Still trying to figure out what to get to replace it. Thinking about this Benjamin Titan NP .177 from Dick's Sporting Goods (dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13316407&lmdn=Brand)
BTW, I followed the link above to NCAirgunners.com and got a message "forum not found".

Hello to all,

I am a new member here. Love to shoot field target and punching paper mainly but some hunting as well.

I shoot springer's, TX200 for field target and also have a Beeman RX with a gas piston power plant, a different animal for sure but a tack driver.

My focus lately is using low power springer's (FWB300S) for some field target and 10 meter paper punching..

I am located in Pittsboro, N.C.

Tar heel airgun club has posts on this forum as well as the yellow and have their own site and small forum. Google them. I think it is thagc.com. They have field target matches and would probably do other stuff if more NC folks would show an interest. I have been to two of the matches and it is a great bunch of folks and they are very happy to have shooters of all levels from beginner to expert.

No air rifle yet but like to Dove and Turkey hunt with a 12 gauge. I just realized that the airgun world has changed a lot (understatement I know) since my Crossman in the late 1960s. I'm here to learn as much as I can to try to make the right choice the first time. I've learned it's much less expensive that way.

Thats a very tough answer to give. You have to decide 1. budget. After that you can narrow it down to a few other factors such as type that you are OK with (springer, PCP, multipump, etc), power thats needed (determined by what you are hunting or if just target and what distance for both), if you dont mind ordering pellets (.20 and .25 not available in normal stores but are excellent calibers), and do you like to tinker with things like air guns. Get those questions answered then you can really narrow it down.

We have club rifles that people can shoot or I'm sure somebody will let you shoot their rifle during the match if you don't have one. This will be my second year with the THAGC. I'm from/live in Mount Airy (Mayberry), wish there were more of you all closer to me. There's nowhere close except Walmart that carries any air guns, so  I try to do a lot of research before I buy any. So for I have a Crosman F4(.177) and a Hatsan 95 (.22), I'm really looking at a disco in .22 or a Mrod in .25.

I might be able to make the next one. Are there rules against air rifles over 12fpe
Title: Re: Folks from NC
Post by: Scott Allen on March 13, 2016, 09:50:44 PM
You can shoot up to 20fpe in either the Hunter division or Open division.  12fpe and under is in what is called the international division (also called WFTF).

I'm going to be making some videos and post on our website that explain some of these thing.

Happy Easter, y'all.

I live in the 40/42 area near Clayton (~15 mins outside Raleigh) and am totally new to the world of airguns.  Just got a gen2 .25cal Mrod with some Christmas money and have a lot of questions regarding noise levels, out-of-box power, tuning, etc.

If anyone nearby has a chrony and is willing to spend some time with me, I'll be willing to pay you for your help...I'm not just looking for handouts, here.  Plus I sincerely just want to get together and shoot with some other enthusiasts!

When one of those THAGC shooting events gets a little closer, I'd love to get together and meet with you guys.  This forum has been a real blessing and I can only imagine how much more fun (and FUNNY) y'all are in person.

Thank you,
-Michael

Hey, we are practically neighbors. I got a whole bunch of .25 pellets if you want them, then you can try different ones. We could get together possibly next weekend, and I can bring my X50 .25, or you can come my way as I have plenty of shooting land. I live in Lillington.

So what would need to happen to get more NC airgun shooters together?

I've been trying since early 2013 and THAGC gets around 20-25 shooters to come out and shoot field target.  It's growing.   We are going to be in three different parts of the state this year shooting starting in Burlington on April 30.   The new guys that come tend to come back, it's fun.

Would some sort of cookout and fun shoot be the thing that gets those on the fence to come out and see what it's all about?   Do some people just not want to compete?

Help me out with this.   There's got to be a way to get people together to enjoy a hobby we love rather than just saying "hi" on the internet.

My wife and I live in Jacksonville N.C. . I'm very new to air gunning but a barbeque or pig picking may be enough to get me to embarrass myself in front of my wife.

I'm in Smithfield. Have chrony, have air. Have some experience. I'm a member of THAGC. I have a few field target targets if you want to give it a try. The matches are VERY un-intimidating. Don't be worried about being embarrassed. My first match I believe my score was about 12 out of 60 and nobody made me feel bad about it and now I'm very competitive. Give it a try, you'll love it!

Hey Y'all,

Greensboro here...came back to air-gunning around 2011, after many years away. As a kid my air rifle was  attached to my hand and had to be surgically removed. I plan to come out to Burlington on 4/30 as a spectator and see what all the flap is about Benchrest. I look forward to meeting and talking to y'all. I'd like to compete but I have a springer that is just a smidge over 20 ft/lb....20.58 to be exact so I'll just watch this time.
Glad to see there are organization of air-gunners clubs sprouting here in NC!

Scott,

I'd love to come out and shoot an event, but Saturday/Sunday is home maintenance & family time quite frankly. Both my wife and I work, and we have 3 kids. I'm lucky to just get 20-30 minutes on a weekend to shoot some 10M freehand in the backyard.

That said - if you had either an onsite or close by offsite event to keep my kids occupied, then I could actually make it to a match. I just can't give up a few hours of nice weather on a weekend and let my other duties slide.

Hi Michael,

Sorry for the late reply but I just joined this forum today  ;D I am East of Clayton - almost to Wilsons Mills.  I have  chrono if/when you need it. I am new to SERIOUS air guns - just picked up an Anschutz 8001 Club rifle. It is a short range (10 meter) proposition but if yours needs distance I have that too.

If CVFD stands for what I think it stands for - thank you for your service.  Drop me a PM and - provided I can figure out that I have a PM on this forum - perhaps we can make direct contact.

Hello neighbors,
I'm a new shooter from Lexington NC. I've already signed up and looking forward to participating in my first FT match scheduled for this month 1/28/17. I'm also looking forward to learning as much as I can about the sport, meeting others with the same passion while having as much fun as the law will allow. I'd also like to thank the people that's been running the many matches across the state and those that have shared so much of their time and knowledge with so many others.

Happy New Year,
Raymond Hawkins

If anyone driving from or through Asheville would be willing to do a ride-share to one of these events, please let me know.  I don't drive due to service connected disabilities (Viet Nam) and the meds that make me periodically dizzy (want to keep be responsible by not driving).  I certainly would pay gas both ways and make it more economically feasible for someone else to do the driving.  It would be nice to see others, and might even join in with one or more of my own air guns, as they put their skills to the test.  Send me a PM if it is a consideration.
