856 Reseal...Dunno Why, Exactly..

I decided I had never worked on a Daisy 856, so today was gonna be the day.
Got the receiver halves removed.
This is a different bugger than the 880 style I am used to.
Took some effort to extract the valve body/barrel from the pump frame as there was some silver past in there sticking things together.
Dunno if that is factory or owner applied.
Cleaned up and replaced the chamber seal--same as the 880 seal and abutment.
Now, about the piston....
The pump arm needs to be removed in order to service the piston.
It is riveted to the pump frame at the pivot point.
It required the hydraulic press to remove, bit got 'er done.
The O-ring is same as 880, but oil ring larger ID. I punched one out and carefully worked it into place.
I will probably replace that pivot rivet (hey..that rhymes!) with a threaded sleeve and a couple of button heads...
First I gotta bead blast and repaint the barrel shroud/pimp frame.
Maybe I'll play around with the alcohol inks to give some color to the furniture.
If I do a good enough job, I might just turn this $25.00 wore out critter into a $25.00 shooter!
Like I said, dunno why, exactly........

You can lead a man to water, but you can't keep him from urinating in it.

FWIW....
The pump lever pivot pin must be pressed out in order to remove/rebuild the piston seal and wiper.
I used this to replace it:

Along with a couple 8-32 x 1/4" button heads.
Dummo if it is as hard as the original, but it is working so far......

Good to see you got your feet wet with the 856, 860 series.

ron, i got some 856 part guns (they are complete, and different models if you need them.) They just need resealing. one of them is actual metal, the other is a black "golden eagle" model, etc... I was gonna put them all together and sell them at the next show for the "fearless" tinkerer... im sticking to my 880s. if you are interested let me know. I can send you pics of what i got here.
gabe
PS: i also got some older 880s that i may move. Complete, need reseal. Early style. I already rebuilt the ones i want to keep
