Sorry to hear about Carl,Beech stock's are very hard to refinish ... as beech wood doesn't take stain well and tends to get blotchy even with a pre-stain.

I had to re do my FWB 124D, probably around 40 years ago, due to a deep scratch in the colored lacquer. I stripped, fine sanded, raised the grain with alcohol, repeated several times, with a final 4/0 steel wool It stained with a dark reddish brown walnut stain and took an oil finish, nicely. I cannot remenber if it were Tru Oil or Linspeed, I am thinking the latter.
