I've been using a wireless XHSCAM doorbell cam and it picks up a rats heat easily and should work for mice. I set mine about 2 feet from baited area, it sends push notifications to ones smart phone via WiFi, about 35 bucks from ebay. It also has infrared tech built in for night vision.
I use wyze cams for home security. I have one pointed at a bird feeder and one at my bait station. They easily pick up mice and small birds day and night. They are less than $30 and don't require a subscription of any kind.

What do you use for a power source for the outside cameras? If it is plugged into an electrical outlet, wouldn't it be a simple matter for a bad guy to unplug the device to prevent him from inadvertently auditioning for criminal of the year on YouTube or you local police department?Other than that, it looks like a pretty economical setup.

It would take ladder to reach them. I also have overlapping coverage on all of them, so one would be recording the bandit trying to uplug another one.
