I just made a deal with a buddy today to buy an old Sheridan Blue Streak(may be a 60s model). My buddy says it has no barrel separation. From what I can see it has the old style metal sights and clamp to the barrel scope rings in front of the sight. Scout style. This will be my first dealing with old Sheratons so bear with me if I ask ignorant questions. Will the scope base possibly lead to barrel separation? Secondly, what about the rear sight? Stay or go? Or is there something I can do to the sight if I leave it on(which I prefer) that will help eliminate the possibility of barrel separation? Your help and patience will be greatly appreciated.

If the scope rings wedge between the barrel and air tube, they could promote separation, but if the gun has made it this long it might be OK.
If the gun is from the '60s. The rear sight will be held on with set screws. The dubious wedge-style sights were introduced in the early '70s. I push the rear sight legs apart and thin out the wedges to decrease pressure on the modern rear sights. Last I talked to Tim at Mac1, he suggested gluing the rear sight on and avoiding the wedge altogether. Even if the barrel does separate, it can be rebonded with Loctite 380 Black Max, or it can be professionally resoldered.
Check out the excellent Wikipedia article describing the variants throughout the years.

Vernon, if you do decide to scope the rifle, I highly recommend the Mac-1 IA mount. It can be scout or breech mounted. It does
not
promote barrel separation because it clamps only to the barrel & not wedged between the barrel & air tube.

If that's a set screw on the side of the rear sight, then it's a pre-sight-wedge model. That's a good thing.
The rear sight has been moved back to the receiver, too. It's normally about six inches forward of where that one is. That's where you normally hold it to pump it up.
If there are tiny numbers on the left side of the receiver below the loading port, they'll tell you the year and month it was made. They're in reverse order. Mine is 5691J meaning October of 1965.
Luck,
J~
