Title: Air Javelin HPA
Post by: Bjmpowersports on January 03, 2022, 05:41:06 PM
Anyone Mod their Air Javelin to run on HPA? If so
I’d like to see your setup. I saw one post about someone converting it and shortening it down also, and 2 guys on YouTube. The couple things I saw said 1100psi is where they were running them and I was wondering if anyone has tried a little more or less or if that was just what seemed best. I got an Air Javelin for Christmas from my wife and was a bit disappointed in performance but found out it was mainly because of the cold temps and the CO2. After keeping the canisters warm in the house and trying it out I was much happier and was able to accurately shoot 30 yards without issue.

So after much research etc HPA seemed to be the way to go, so that’s what I’ve ventured to do. I just need my pump to show up tomorrow so I can see where my regulator is and adjust my pressure and try to shoot it. I’ve ordered some more stuff also to mount the bottle the opposite direction with a short line, and some different clamp options to try, but this seemed like the easiest route right now and if I keep it this way I’ll trim the grip for it to slide over. Only issue this way is I have to take it apart piece by piece if I want to swap back to CO2 which I can’t say at this point I’d ever care to do, and I originally planned on a line and quick connect etc but less pieces is sometimes better but this is the first time I’ve ever messed with an Airbow much less HPA.

I don't get it... The ease of using  co2 guns have always appealed to me. I own the javelin and many other co2 guns.

Why didn't you buy an air saber ?

Acapulco, the Co2 cartridges are sensitive to temperature. too cold and you will not get best results. So that's why he's going with HPA, I get that part. My Co2 Javelin gun arrived and shot below the advertised speed. So i didn't like that at all.

I did a conversion long time ago. I would stay at 850psi reg. unless you can get a stronger spring and heavier hammer. And the max you wanna go is 1100 psi, give or take due to these guns are not built for high pressure in the first place. SAFETY concerns above 1100psi!!!!!!!! I went to 1700psi for testing purposes only. was a dumb thing to do now that i look back. please dont go any higher than 1100psi.

Well it was a gift from my wife, I knew nothing about any such gun as an Airbow before seeing this, and honestly I would have kept it co2 but I was highly disappointed with the results which turned out to be a cold weather issue and the winter time is when I would use this for the most part. Out of the box I wasn’t even able to adjust the iron sights high enough at 10 yards to zero out, and forget about it at 20 yards I had to aim about 3’ high. After using warm co2 I had much better results such as about 8” drop at 30yards.

This morning I took a few shots on HPA at 1025psi which is where I was able to get my regulator with what washers I had laying around. WOW was I impressed. My scope was zero’d at 20yards, I shot 6” high, I went out to 30yards and I’m about spot on, so needless to say I’m thoroughly impressed. At this point in time I’m just going to dial my scope in as good as I can, and then enjoy what I have because I’d say I’m 100% satisfied at this point in time. Now to hunt some small game...

Thanks for the link to the thread. I shot mine at 1025psi this morning and was blown away at how it shoots. No chronograph but my scope was dialed in at 20 yards but I shot over the target at 20, so I tried 30 and was spot on. Now that it has more power I may try the 100grain tips again, I’d like to be able to use some of my broadheads from my bow, but I did buy the 50grain blood bugs also to try. I was going to make my own arrows also but the Umarex ones are only $14.25 for 6 on Amazon, so I ordered a bunch.

Here’s a pic I took with the bottle clamp I made and bolted to the M-Lok rail, and I decided to just cut a slot in the fore grip for the fittings and be done with it. Very happy overall, and maybe only a hair heavier then with an 88/90gram CO2 which I don’t mind really.

Hi Ben, I just received my 13 ci HKArmy bottle and it seems a little anemic compared to warm CO2 cans. How did you shim your regulator with washers to raise the output? I plan to use mine with my Javelin and with a souped up paintball gun so don't want to raise it too much, maybe to about 900 psi. by the way, the regulator on my bottle seems to be a bit slow to stabilize. Have you noticed that on yours?

So what I did was loosen the two allen head screws on the top half of the regulator, unscrew it, and there’s a bunch of beveled washers and 2 flat washers. I tried a few combos by swapping the bottom washer for a thicker one, or adding a thin washer etc. in the end I ended up with the original setup with an added washer of 1.04mm which got me to my 1025psi number. I didn’t check it out if the box because I knew it was going to be too low and I have a hand pump to fill it with, so I wasn’t looking to pump it up for fun and drain it again.... as far as slow to stabilize I haven’t used it much and I don’t have a gauge on the regulated side when on the gun as well as taking my time between shots loading it each time etc. I did read some people on Amazon complained of such an issue though along with not being even close out of the box to the 800-850psi range.

Awesome info, thanks Ben. Supposed to be rainy, windy, and a low of 21 degrees the next couple days so I will experiment with some shims.

Today I finally got a chance to take some shots, been down and out with covid the last 5 days or so. It was about 15*F out this morning and I shot about 20 arrows with no troubles at all and got my scope about dialed in. Going to top off the bottle in the morning and shoot a bunch again to solidify my scope adjustments and make sure everything with the gun is good to go. If I have time I’m going to try some 100grain tips also to see how they fly now that it seems to have enough power.

There are mods to boost the fpe on the javelin.

Well...no need to modify the javelin to hpa. Umarex has the new air javelin  pro in pcp. Check out the videos on YouTube.

Yeah I saw they just came out yesterday. I’m going to buy one for sure, although I’m still happy with my conversion as CO2 isn’t great for me being I’d use it in freezing temps, but packing more power and PCP from the factory sounds great lol. I just like this platform over the air sabor mainly because of the size being super compact. I guess in hind sight if the Javelin wasn’t a gift and this was out I would have just went for the pro, but hey that’s how it goes I guess, just means I’ll have to get the new one and see if I can’t push this one further for fun, and it’s been a great learning experience and a gateway for me to get into the airgun world.

Yeah...being i live in warm weather, I love shooting co2 guns. From co2 small calibers to co2 big bores...always enjoyed the freedom of co2 carts or bulk fill.

My javelin will remain co2.
