In need of some help........and suggestions

Guys
My G-son brought his new AR to me to fix a problem, I know nothing about it,
Brand name Ruger Air Hawk, made by Umerax, 17 cal, spits a pellet out at around 1050fps per the V-3 chrono,
it is a break bbl model, very accurate and loud as a 22 LR going off.
Here is the problem,
I need to remove the stock and attempt to adjust the trigger, to remove the mile & 1/2 of no pressure slack of the trigger pull,
the trigger release is very good, light and crisp, when the release point is finally reached etc.
Is it safe to remove from the stock, unloaded and not cocked, so I can see the trigger workings,
it does have an adjustable trigger?
I am thinking along these lines, in that I can mill a small/slim alum block to fit the trigger bow curve,
install a spring plunger in the alum piece and have it secured to the trigger bow,
I have several spring plungers of various lengths and they run from 1-1/2 to 3 # pull weights.
I would find the best place/angle, lock the alum piece in place then tap/drill thru the alum piece and trigger bow,
for the spring plunger thread size 6/32 tpi, long nosed types.
There would be the take up slack/movement, then the trigger hits the spring plunger,
and then the final pull to fire the AR.
The trigger bow is alum and appears to be stout enough to do this mod etc.
I would appreciate your thoughts or suggestions, to correct or make a better trigger pull for him.
Tia,
Don

I suggest performing the "second screw mod" to the trigger. It is adjustable as it is without removing the stock. The stock can be removed with nothing else coming apart. The trigger is a Chinese clone of a Diana T05 trigger.

About the noise level, get some 10.5 grain pellets. That should drop the velocity into the 900 FPS range and quite things down; a lot.

I reread your post. You are looking at a LOT of work to remove the play. The T05 trigger is generally a pretty good one. Try backing out the adjustment screw a quarter or half turn before trying anything else. It sounds counter intuitive but it may help. If you remove the stock you won't see much more than with the stock installed. That gun has a fully enclosed modular trigger. If you dismantle the gun and remove the trigger pack there's still nothing to see. It's all inside the shell. If you have not worked with the triggers before you probably do NOT want to dismantle the trigger without more information.Work with the adjustment screw you have. A longer screw would have less travel but you run the risk of a hair trigger or the gun not latching when cocked. There is a lot you can do to that trigger if you really want to get into it. It's a pretty good trigger, but I don't think it's possible to go clear through it without dismantling the gun and you should have some kind of spring compressor for that.

I wonder if it is possible to reduce the initial trigger travel simply installing a stop of some kind? The question is, how much travel is required for full reliable sear engagement on cocking? You don't want to interfere with that to the point of dangerous sear capture.
What about trigger position and travel for the safety...

Remove JUST the trigger blade. Send it to Mike, at flyingdragonairrifles, and ask him to do the " two screw mod". It'll cost around 10 bucks. That's all that needs to be done.

Thanks Guys
First, I looked at the trigger, then I'll decide what to do, sounds like the 2 screw mod is the best deal,
I looked for the 2 screw mod, found lots of info, but no photo's showing what is being talked about etc.
Since I am NOT set up to handle a springer, and I want a safe weapon for the G-son,
I think the 2 screw mod sounds like the best option, and I'll send off the trigger to have it modded etc.
Thanks to all,
Don

Don, to perform the second screw mod (or have it done) you need only remove the blade. Remove the gun from the stock then only one pin is required to be removed to take out the blade. Caution - the return is located on the rear of the trigger blade. It's a weak spring - easy to put back into place. If you are at all mechanically inclined it should be no problem.

Have you tried adjusting the travel with the stock screw before doing anything else?
Moved to the China gate since the gun is made in China.

This mod not only takes care of the travel but also the "weight".
