Title: Starting the Ozark Mountains Airgun Club
Post by: GordonShumway on July 29, 2021, 11:47:03 PM
A fellow airgunner, and myself, have decided to jump feet first into creating an Airgun Club for the area of southwest Missouri. And what's a club without an event to get it started on the right foot?

So the newly formed "Ozark Mountains Airgun Club" would like to invite other fellow airgun enthusiasts to the first ever squirrel hunting competition. The event will be held on October 2, 2021 at the Lead Mine Conservation Area near Tunas, Mo. There are campsites and a non staffed gun range available. We are planning on arriving October 1, 2021 for an overnight camp out and perhaps some fun plinking that Friday.

So we would encourage you to come out the day before and camp with us. Give us all a chance to get to know one another. We plan on providing dinner (hamburgers) Friday night around the campfire.

This event is open to anyone else that enjoys shooting airguns, not just to those that live in the area.  The squirrel hunt will have 2 categories to compete, most squirrels and heaviest squirrel. The competition will also be in teams of 2. So bring your family and friends that you want to team up with.

So at this point, you're probably asking yourself "what about the prizes?" Well we've got that covered. Metal targets will be made by SweezC on agn (Casey) to give to the winners of each category. As well as our very 1st hats that will be made for the Ozark Mountains Airgun Club. But that's not all. There will also be even a greater prize! The winners will forever go down in the history books as the very FIRST event champions of the Ozark Mountains Airgun Club! The Fame! The Glory! The Book Deals!

So really, if you've got nothing planned for October 1-2, 2021, come on out. Bring your family and friends. Help us to bring together an exciting event with the opportunity to meet some new folks that enjoy what you do! I know SweezC on agn(Casey) and myself are pretty excited to see where this goes. We are already talking about a field target competition sometime soon afterwards.

First Ozark Mountain Airgun Club event starts in less than a week. Held at Lead Mine Conservation near Tunas. Oct 1st we are grilling burgers for those that want to sit down and get to know some other local fellow air gunners. Oct 2nd is the squirrel hunt. Weigh in is at 3:00pm. Limit of 10 squirrels. It is the hunters responsibility to know the law and have the correct permits.

If you would like to attend, please send me a private message. And if you have any questions, I will answer them asap. Thank you

Sure sounds like a lot of fun. I'm stuck working and on the other side of the state or I'd be up for it. Maybe next go around!!

We have decided to hold off til beginning of spring next year. Between weather and holidays. We tried for a target shoot in December but there was too much else going on for folks. Our 1st event will most likely be some sort of target shoot, since squirrel season doesnt open til May (if i remember correctly).

Once we start throwing together a schedule, i will make a post. Hopefully with a couple months notice, so folks can plan better for it

Sounds good.  By that time I should be able to get away for a few hours.

We seem to get more activity over on airgunnation. They moved the thread down here and there is not much attention. We tried a new conservation property in about as central of missouri as you can get. Camping was too primative and squirrels were non existent. Saw 4 other groups of people hunting squirrels so I think they know what hunters look like. Range wasn't bad and we played on it for a while. Looking to find a less used central location to be even travel distance for everyone.
