There are some phone and computer apps. Chronoconnect is one of them. Some people report good results, other not so good.
Hi William,Yes, I pretty much had the same thought. Check out this post I made here:http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=50076.msg474308 My estimate came within about 10 fps of actual velocity. I did end up getting a chrony :-)
Hi William, From the instant a pellet leaves the barrel it begins a fall back to earth. Ballistic coefficients simply compute how fast a projectile is slowing down. Since everything falls back to earth at the same time, you can then compute it's flight path and point of impact at different ranges. Allowing for this physical attribute rifles are designed so that the sight line, be it scope or open sights, and the rifle line intersect each other. In other words for sights to work the projectile line is angled up to intersect your sight line. This creates a situation visually of an arc with a line drawn across it. The projectile being the arc and the sight line being the straight line. Where two position that line crosses the arc, is your near zero and far zero. As you change your zero range, the relationship between the sight line and the projectile arc changes. Usually a good near zero for a pellet rifle is about 20 yards. Some back yards restrict a 20 yard range. So just the understanding of the physics above and a ballistic program allows you to sight in at any range.Chuck
Chronoconnect is the ticket.. Worth a try at least as I got it for free..It works off listening to the report, then compares it to the impact.. You will need tape measure to set it up.. So make sure that you are out in the open in your yard, and NOT next to buildings, fences or the sort.. I had issues with it while shooting directly towards wall, or windy days.. It is consistent, and not far from my Alpha Chrony readings.. Came in handy one day out camping when I couldn't find 9v for Alpha Chrony!
Brother, I tried it and it gave me a spread of 10-72fps or somewhere very close spread wise.Quote from: ToRmEnToR on March 13, 2015, 10:04:02 AMChronoconnect is the ticket..
