If you have 2 little girls, check out how the public schools are rated, even if you plan on sending them to private school. If the educational system of an area isn't making the mark, the future of the area is not bright (no pun intended). Check out the unemployment rate of the area. If the job market is healthy, that is always a good sign. Check out the percentage of people that are living below the poverty line in the area. In general, poverty, unemployment, and under-performing schools are all warning signs. And above all, make sure that YOU will be able to get a good job there.
I should look at all this. Embarrassingly it skipped my mind. When looking into Crescent City, Florida the real estate agent was going into that extensively. I should be a bit more focused on that Thanks for the reminder!
In West Virginia I had a really great community. I nearly decided to stay but, and there is always a but, my wife did not like the cold...and it gets semi cold there. The south we like, and have agreed that the values of the communities correspond better for us raising our kids. As for Austin, growing up in the country, I don't do cities. Seems nice enough though.I am looking at Crescent City, Florida. Bass lakes!
Then you'll be fine. Country people are amongst the best people in the world. Get rid of those XXXX license plates as fast as you can though.
The Carolinas have a lot to offer. I haven't ever been to Tennessee but I like what I hear about it. West Virginia has a lot to offer too but high unemployment and with that problems. Think of the family first. In other words, is there room for them to excell in life. I wouldn't recommend Jacksonville to anybody, but if you like it then great. If you get a chance head through Hwy 30A and Destin Florida. I am a Floridian. Just consider the Hurricanes. There are several nice places you'd probably like there, but it's so muggy and the heat gets old. When I was younger I actually enjoyed the long summers and warmer winters.I'll always see Florida as home but I am so glad the wife and I moved to Virginia.
If I was going to pick up and move today, I'd very likely go to Wyoming. It's still rugged enough to suit me, and not heavily populated, which is a high priority of mine, as I age.
