This should be interesting,............
I can do a pretty mean worm on a fish hook. Live fish for bait as well. As for the fuzzy butt squirrels,... if they are tearing up your stuff,..... then all bets are off. Full on war by any means needed.
I will leave the rest of it (current topic) up to ya' all.
I did have (subject at hand) inserted just above,.... then I thought better.

I don't have to intentionally bait the squirrels. My wife's bird feeders keep them coming to specific locations on a regular basis. We also get a lot of acorns from a number of oak trees in the yard. I just have to pick a good location to set up if I want to shoot them.
If they're coming to your yard they are already "baited" by something. In my case I have plenty of options to set up where safety is not an issue and no close neighbors to worry about.

Like Bill I just put out feeders for the birds. All sorts of critters show up for the buffet. As I have mentioned I shoot a few early season squirrels for the pot but I am maintaining the squirrel population right around the homestead for emergency rations.
I have two permissions that I hunt but neither land owner will allow baiting and other than that I hunt WMA’s where it isn’t permitted either.
A fellow who studies the local game and determines where and when they will be feeding based on knowledge of local food sources is held to be a crafty hunter. A fellow who baits for game is not quite so highly regarded. I consider baiting to be a legitimate tactic I just don’t have a lot of opportunity to do it. I am currently negotiating on a permission where I can bait for feral hogs.

Same here... The wife likes birds so we have feeders. Can't keep the dang squirrels away and we finally went with metal feeders so they couldn't tear them up. I don't shoot them out of season, but all bets are off as soon as it opens.

I just sit there and look all nutty
wait with baited breath. I do not need to bait as there is natural foods growing anywhere I hunt. If trapping or pesting bait goes in a trap if needed, many times I have done well with un bated traps also.

in some states where the squirrel is considered a game animal, it might be illegal to bait and unfortunately, a bird feeder would be considered baiting. Check regulations in your state.

I don’t bait squirrels, I have bird feeders and I bait for rats. The squirrels take full advantage of both. Then again, I do t shoot squirrels either, unless they become pests, then all bets are off!

We just have ground squirrels here (destructive pests). I have used a baited trap a few years back. I baited with citrus because that is what they were eating and it worked very well. One day I got 10 ground squirrels at the same time.
This is what the trap looks like. I grabbed this pic of their web site.

Intentional baiting,, no.. My yard is next to a park. The village does not mow or cut near the fenceline so it is full of what the squirrels "plant", walnuts and mulberries. The trees are close enough there that they can go halfway across the yard without touching the ground, and from there continue on the fence. So it's a squirrel highway. The black/grey and fox are left alone, since they don't do any damage. The reds are shot on sight, because they like to chew on the garage.
