So we have multiple foxes moved into the neighborhood. We currently have a higher than I can remember rabbit population. So if I wanted to keep the foxes at bay, how much air rifle does one need to take an ethical shot?Has anyone taken a fox with something like a mid-power PCP like an Urban or Fortitude? Or even a springer?
I know it is way too light of a gun for them but I haven taken a few foxes and a coyote with my .177 gamo viper igt, they were all very ethical kills.
The real rabbit problem is they are eating the rabbits I want to shoot ! So it's shoot the foxes so I can shoot more rabbits. Are you talking head shots on the fox, or vitals?

We have a resident "red" who is silver and a beauty. He is also a majestic critter and large for species. We don't see him often. The POA is doing a much better job of keeping the park behind us mowed. Less food for him, and less opportunity for me as well. I'll take the trade off.A few raccoons have been dispatched using a 22fpe nitro piston. All but one was defiant and let me walk up to 10-20 feet. Pop them between the eyes, so to speak, and DRT. That has been my go to yard work rifle for a very long time. Armadillo's take a hit and run. The buzzards are usually dining the next day withing 20 yards of the hit. I don't think one has ever dropped. All creatures great and small get a pass as long as they aren't being destructive.I get the annoyance in competing for table fare though.
It's just how I grew up I guess. We have legal season for rabbits, squirrels, foxes, deer, ducks, and we hunted game during it's season. We didn't hunt out of season. Not wanting to offend anyone, just how it was and still is in the rural area we live.
Isn’t there a expert Hawaiian hunter on here that has taken boar with a .177 disco? If only he would do a post of skull pics with different calibers?
We’ve got fox and bobcat that will predate our poultry if I let them. So far the pens, coops, and sheet metal have stopped them. I have big dogs that have the run of the property and they discourage predators but I still see “our” bobcat about once a month. Usually back by the fish ponds. I haven’t seen any fox since Hurricane Michael blew through. Skunk used to be common hereabouts but I haven’t seen one in years. River otter can be a pest here. They will raid hen coops for eggs. I won’t go fox hunting but if I catch one in my coops I’ll give it a bad case of lead poisoning.
