I know that the Sears model equivalents of the 140, 1400, and 160 all came with dovetails and I think some of the Monkey Wards gun’s did too. I prefer my Sears model 126-19300 (1st model 1400) because I have decided I prefer the early 140 style breech cover to the later bolt style but the dovetail is still a bit far forward to get proper eye relief with a modern scope. I have to use a cantilever scope mount to get the scope far enough back.
Very cool! I am using a CenterPoint cantilever mount that I got at Academy sports for $12.00. PA sells the same mount under the Leapers brand for about the same price. I talked to a gunsmith about drilling and tapping a screw hole to secure the other end of the rail. He said about $50.00. The epoxy is working perfectly well right now though I can understand why someone might not want to go that route.
It looks good just like that. Sorry to hear it is leaking but the reseal job is pretty easy and then you have the peace of mind of having all new seals. Good for another 50 years!
