The HF ...manual ...says it has a 5" spindle stroke.
With everything that is going on, it may be worth keeping an eye on the used market. Unfortunately there will be people that need to raise cash and may be willing to let a little used tool go.
Frustrating.Does Fedex have real time GPS tracking of the truck? My wife had a UPS delivery the other day and could track the truck as it worked its way through the neighborhood.... and pounce on it as it pulled up to the house.Good luck tomorrow.
I already have this one https://www.harborfreight.com/1-1-2-half-horsepower-heavy-duty-milling-drilling-machine-33686.html at 750 LBS , its big enough for me.. plus i dont have a 220 line in the shop
Thank you fedex, for NOT delivering my lathe AGAIN. So I looked at the little tracker, and they've had my lathe in their depot 15 minutes from my house since 0730 Friday- the day they were supposed to deliver it. It was put on a truck at around 0730 on monday. Driver refused drop. Today, it was put on a truck at 0730, to be delivered by COB... and now, the "new delivery date" is tomorrow "by COB". Fedex probably has done the same thing as UPS and only has their drivers and warehouse people working, which means I can't get through to a PERSON. This is so GD frustrating. Even if I had the means to go pick up this lathe from the depot (which I don't... no truck), I can't- because of fedex. I know it's not the size of my street, because full-size dump trucks have no issues navigating my street. This looks like pure laziness on the part of the drivers. How hard is it to put a lathe onto a hand truck and push a button on a liftgate?! EDIT: I called fedex. At least they DID NOT pull a UPS. I'm actually able to talk to a real person. I'm NOT ALLOWED to pick up the package myself. Supposedly, the package was scanned, but not physically put on the truck this morning. Riddle me this: HOW DO YOU MISS A 300 LBS CRATE?! Laziness. Complacency. No attention to detail... They better be glad they're not on a mission in Afghan or Iraq, or those idiots would be getting their buddies killed.
Figured I'd ask here vs making a new thread. I'm looking at getting a table top lathe. Nothing special, just a 7x14 or around that. Problem is my garage isn't heated, unless Im working in the winter. I thought about making a 2x4/Plywood bench. Would making a insulated plywood box to go over, with say some sort of heating rod. Like the ones you put in a gun safe work?

Like the ones you put in a gun safe work? You worried about the oil/grease gumming up? Condensation is probably more worrisome than the cold... An idea might be to just hang a heat lamp above the lathe and flip it on for 10 minutes or so before you work. Anyone else have any thoughts to the cold workshop question?
If you get about a three day very cold spell and then it warms up, the lathe will condense water like crazy until its temperature catches up if not heated. Regards, Tom
