Title: Jsar raptor holding its own.
Post by: Jakobi86 on November 22, 2021, 11:18:46 PM
Hey guys, I know some people have had their issues with the raptor but just wanted to chime in and say that I’m becoming pretty impressed with this gun. My tune is set up to shoot the avs 60gr dish base hollow points around 940-950fps. The other day I made a second round hit on a red squirrel at 90yds! The impact was unmistakable lol.  I’m still chasing a slight Stiction issue though. Fairly certain it’s not reg creep either. First shot
Is about 15-20fps slow and shots there after sound like it’s wasting a tad bit too much air. But at this point I’m packing more energy than a .22 long rifle and I’d venture to say as or more accurate. 60yds I had a tiny clover leaf.

Now all that said I can see why guys gave up and got rid of these guns. The tunes and adjustability are endless and what I assume, more often than not, become frustrating and people gave up. I mean when less than a 1/8 turn on the buffer can make or break your settings, it’s so easy to see how you could bypass your goal all together and chase your tune all day.

My gun holds air perfectly, is about as accurate as I could ever expect and really packs some down range punch. It has me prettt darn impressed this far. I’ll tinker a little more with my stiction issue and keep moving on.

My goal is a Texas hog this winter and I’d say I have the platform to do it

Jake, that is awesome to hear! I have one of the first built .22 by Travis. I have a couple minor issues that were resolved by Jacob and Matt and they also upgraded the valve and hammer spring components. I tuned mine which like you said is endless and very time consuming but fun and a steep learning curve. Haven't shot mine for awhike as I believe the breech o'ring is compromised and haven't changed it out as I have been shooting my RAW. I want to contact Matt and see iff he would machine grooves on the probe for the o'rings instead of in the barrel. Great PCP's for sure.

I have a Raptor .257 HP which I believe was setup and tested by Scott(motorhead) when he was bailing them out.
It's a 100 yard hole puncher and I have not had any problems with it or shot it lately.

I just a 257 hp raptor from my uncle. He bought this a while ago and shelved it because it had so many issues. The air cylinder was actually pushing the barrel upwards, and it wouldnt hold air. Also it didnt come close to the power they claimed out of the box. I have spent the last 5 days rebuilding the rifle tring to fix all the problems. I was able to get the power up from 80 FPE to 120 but it's still off the 160 that its supposed to make. Now the reg guage is leaking and the outer valve o-ring is leaking. I love all the tuning options just wish it would hold air and make the power its supposed to.  When it works its amazing I love they way this thing shoots. Just wish did have to tair it down every day tring to fix leaks

Sorry to hear the problems that you ae experiencing with your .257, but you are certainly learning the inners, which is needed information,
if you are planning on keeping it.

I feel these guns were built around a larger caliber than 177 and for a good bit of power with the larger pellets.

I found with my 177 the regulator had to be kept on the lowest setting and I made a SSG (stop spring guide) to get it within a working window.

The adjustments, as previously mentioned, were extremely critical.  Too critical for me to rely on.  The gun was sold although, when properly adjusted, it was a very good shooter.
