Title: My New Marauder has Arrived!
Post by: profsrgary on February 13, 2019, 03:39:48 PM
Well I just ordered my first PCP from Crosman on Friday and it arrived today. That comes out to 3 business days. Less than I expected but since I had no previous experience with them I didn't know exactly what to expect. I got the wood stock and it looks o.k. but the finish leaves a little to be desired. One side was repaired and when it was resprayed the finish didn't fill and you can see the marks from the 3M pad through the finish. Not a big deal as I was a cabinet maker for almost 30 years and will do a respray after I am sure the mechanics are good and it doesn't have to be returned. Now I have to wait for my scope and compressor before the fun begins. My Gamo Whisper Fusion Mach 1 can't wait either cause it needs a well deserved rest. I got that (my first air rifle since I was a kid) a year ago and according to a tin count I shot over 15,000 pellets in a year. Man I love that rifle but everyone says once I shoot a PCP I'll never go back. I doubt that. I got a crossbow 4 years ago and still shoot and hunt with my compound bow on occasion. Guess I am a glutton for punishment. Well since it will be a week before my scope and compressor arrive I will have plenty of time to read the manual and gather information that abounds on this forum. I just joined but have been reading posts since I got my Gamo a year ago and I have to say it is a privilege to be able to join a forum such as GTA and be privy to the knowledge that is so generously shared by the members. Please forgive all my questions because there will be many and some will be dumb because I am 68 years and late to the party. Thanks ahead of time, Gary

Welcome to the party and congrats on the new Marauder, you will love it. The Marauder was my second pcp purchased after my first one a Discovery was stolen in a house robbery. After you have shot it a bit and tested some pellets for accuracy, if the trigger feels like the spring tension is too stiff you can check out the video on youtube on how to remove the lawyer spring, that was the first mod I did on mine and well worth the trouble. There are many more mods available to further improve your love for this rifle but they can come after you get acquainted with her. I hope you enjoy shooting her. What caliber did you buy might I ask? If a 22 then I'd recommend starting with some JSB 18.13 grain for starters.

Congratulations Gary!
The Marauder has quite the following here and on other forums. You can read, tune and mod to your hearts content.
It will be interesting to get your feedback on what you think of the Crosman barrels.

Enjoy!

Great gun to start with Gary. I just picked one up to for my first PCP after doing a bunch of reading and research.
Just for the record I bought a crossbow 4 years back but still hunt with my compounds. Have yet to pull out the Skorpyd 😁.
Let us know how she shoots once you're set up.

Great news! I just found out that my compressor will be here tomorrow instead of a week from today. Scope not due for a week but I have scopes that I can mount to see how this thing shoots. Will keep all posted as things develop. Thanks much for all of the response and warm welcome.

Congrats Gary. It's only the first of many to come!
My first was the .25 Synrod back in late 2013.

Tracker, I got a Yong Heng on Ebay. I read the reviews of the seller pertaining to the compressor and several mentioned it was genuine. One guy even said the first one he bought was junk but it wasn't a genuine and that the new one from this seller was and was working great. I contacted several sellers and asked them point blank if the units were knock offs or genuine. Some never responded, one seller said no. This seller said they are Genuine Yong Heng and if it wasn't he would refund my money plus $50 for my inconvenience. I also read his feedback and scrolled down checking what the buyers had to say and all had praise for this seller and compressor. I will be going directly from compressor to gun so no long run times will be involved. With this being my first PCP and the initial costs involved I had to come up with a budget which I decided would be $700 to $800 for gun, scope, and air supply. I will keep you posted on how it works.

Well the new Marauder is certainly different from the Gamo Mach1.  Can't believe how quiet and accurate it is right out of the box. 14.66 H and N FTT going at about 830 muzzle. The Yong Heng pumps this thing up in less than a minute. Oh my, what have I gone and done??? Pics to follow.

Try shooting those jsb 18 grn pellets & tune it to 880 fps. That will put
a smile on your face. :D

I agree I have a gen two .25 marauder and I just love it. I didn't change the valve but I did put in a ssg and did a few other little things and I'm getting an average of 868 with 3 clips and this sucker is super quite! Believe it or not when I shoot a squirrel, rabbit, or sparrow the sound of the pellet hitting the critter is louder then when the gun goes off!

Congrats , you might want to consider an aftermarket hammer,  it will make cocking the rifle much smoother.

My first PCP was a benjamin armada in 25 caliber, Ive had it for 2 or 3 yrs now and I just bought a marauder in 22 caliber in December and really love it. I bought a Boyds thumbhole varmint stock at the same time. This gun is awesome and I'm sure yours is too. There is a ton of aftermarket upgrades for these rifles. I get really excited talking about this stuff lol. You made a good choice going with the compressor for Ive been using a hand pump since I bought the armada. That's going to be my next purchase... hopefully. Ive only been a member at GTA for a short time and I'm loving it. Everyone is really positive and actually really nice and extremely helpful. Enjoy doing some cheap shooting! Welcome.

Thanks Tom, I appreciate your offer. Right now only filling the Marauder it only runs for a minute or two a day. This whole PCP thing has my head swimming. Right now I would really like to get a day or two hunting squirrels before the season ends the end of the month. I am happy to learn that the Crosmans which didn't shoot well out of my Gamo make one ragged hole ten shot groups at 12 yards off of the tripod.
