Central Illinois Air Gunners?
« on: July 17, 2013, 09:36:32 PM »
Hey, I'm new to this whole "social" thing here.  Seriously, though, I don't know a lot of people.  I was hoping to find some people around Springfield, or no more than an hour away, to go air gunning with.   I'm rather young, but have been shooting for several years.  Let me know if you're up for anything.  Also, anyone with any spare airgun parts/stuff that they don't want, I'll take it off your hands :).  I want to get into airgun modding, so I need spare stuff, because I can't afford to,  buy a $50+ airgun, just for one or two parts (I'm currently in between jobs).  However, I will pay you back eventually, as some percentage of the total cost of the gun it came from.

Hope to hear from some central Illinois air gunners soon.  Thank you.

I'm further up north, but I've seen some guys here from central IL, Chanahan (sp?)...
I think not many people scroll down to this section. I forget about myself sometimes.

Hi Guys,

We should plan a get together/ shoot.  There are enough of us to have a small fun shoot.  My wife has a small rural property just outside of Toledo, IL.  There is about an acre that is kept mowed.  There may well be a more central location.  We would be participating if her schedule is open.

Just to make it interesting, bring your favorite fun target.  We could possibly incorporate these "targets" into an informal "fun" match.

It's something to think about.

About a 3 hr drive for me, but that could be a fun Saturday. I may or may not successfully talk my wife into coming. 😃

I talked to the wife last night and we are definitely in. Just checked Mapquest and it's further than I thought (4 hrs.) but if we camp overnight it will be fine. Is it alright if we stay there in a tent?
A fun match sounds great too.

Folks,
What Saturday in May sounds good?  This is a big assumption on my part, will Lilly and I be hosting it in rural Toledo?  We will need to work out a date.

(prepare for mud and or rain)  Do any of you have portable awnings?

Hot dogs on an open fire for lunch?

Those who wish to camp in a primitive manner can spend Saturday night.

Are there other ideas?

BTW, tents are fine.

May 30 (the weekend before that is Memorial Day). My wife is going to a women's conference that weekend.

Hot dogs for lunch sounds good. We can bring a side dish or two and other snacks, but I'm sure we'll talk beforehand to decide.
I'm in favor of low-budget though. Probably $80 for gas for me to get there and back. May is OK, but the weather is iffy the first couple weekends usually. Maybe June would be better?

Guys,
June is pretty much booked up for me.  There is a blacksmith get together in Tipton and a trip to Minot, ND.  Weather is unknown.

My wife, Lilly, and I have a timed beverage can shoot that we do sitting down.  We set our cans out about 10 yards and each of us shoot at one can each.  Usually, we shoot for 5 minutes.  The winner will have moved the can the farthest. the trick is accurate edge shots, or the pellet just passes through not moving the can.  The time can be adjusted for the PCP guys.

Hope we can do this, I do look forward to meeting you folks.  I might be able to pry a couple more locals out of their rockers to joint in the fun.

Is Memorial weekend a possibility. Wasn't my due to possible traffic, but we're off for three days. We could leave Sunday afternoon and have Monday to unpack and clean stuff.

Guys,

Mark (mobilmail)  has suggested May 30 and Jerry (Tater) has put forth  May 23. Either date will work for Lilly and I.  I would like for both of you to be there.  Is there a date that would work for both of you?

BTW, more are welcome to attend.

I'm flexible. The 23rd will give more folks flexibility because of the holiday, and it's not like they will be able to find an open campground anywhere else that weekend!  :-)

I might be able to make it, wife has surgery end of this month and depends how that goes.  Looks like Toledo is about 2 hours so maybe a one day trip for me.

I hope the surgery goes well and you can make it.

Very true about the campgrounds.
