Lake Shelbyville
« on: March 16, 2016, 08:33:05 PM »
Not really a fun shoot topic so move if necessary.

Any Illinois squirrel shooters willing to give helpful info on the Lake Shelbyville area. Spent the day cruising campgrounds and looking at nice mature woods, sure looks promising.  Prefer the Corps areas as I can use a Pellet gun there.

Thanks - Steve

It's Illinois specific so it would probably be OK here.
I went fishing there many years ago and camped right on the lake, it is a gorgeous area.

Like Carlyle Lake area?  I think that is an Army Corps of Engineers area.  Beautiful there. Dave

We have reservations for Bo Woods Campground the end of the month (you know, when it cools down in Il) I'll report back on my impressions.

So, we're back from the camping trip to Lake Shelbyville.  Realy tough weather, went up on Thursday and came back today.  Temps ran in the mid 90's with Heat Index 108/110!  Still had a great time and look forward to going back.  So the details:  Camped at Forest "Bo" Woods Campground which is a Corp of Eng cg. North East side of the lake.  Beautiful large campsites some paved some gravel but wide/deep and level.  30/50 Amp service, water point every 4 to 5 sites, and sites with dump available but not at every site.  Close to Arcola if you or your campmate want to do the Amish or antique bit while you are there. Lots of "Hunter Access" points and mature timber of oak/hickory.  Did not see one squirrel while there but I didn't go looking or them and they were probably holed up in the shade panting!

Anyway, great place to go camp and I'll let you know if I get back during squirrleing season.

Thanks for the camping review. Man, it's been so hot! We were supposed to camp last weekend near Quad Cities but chickened out. Can't imagine sleeping outside with it this hot.
Or did you have a camper? Sorry if I missed that.

Missed-Em,

Lilly and I live about 8 miles from Bo Woods.  We camped there a couple of times this spring, the first week end it poured and the second weekend, we sat under the A/C. Perhaps, we could meet you and the Mrs. there.

In a few weeks, we are taking our Scamp to northern N.D. to camp with our son and his family.

Bob - let you know next time we head that way
