Title: Spring fun shoot planning stage
Post by: Mosin Marine on February 19, 2020, 08:03:52 PM
Trying to get a time frame set in to do a possible fun shoot this spring like I did last fall.

I like May. I'll be in Florida for a week in April, and it might still be a little chilly around here.

I voted June.  We receive more rain in May than April, and April is too wet

The GTA Fun Shoot East is the weekend of May 16 - 17 in Alabama. I don't know if overlapping shoots will affect one or the other. Just something to think about.

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't been able to attend a GTA air gun shoot. Part of reason for starting my own.

June works best for me , due to me chasing turkeys around the month before, also the slower work load at that time of year.

June would be fine with me, too. I'm pretty flexible.

Brandon I turkey hunt just north of you in Monroe WI.

As a new member, I would love to participate. I joined to learn more about air, and think meeting other members would be great.

Weekends are best for me, but I could make a weekday if needed.

Thanks Tater. Getting to try some nice rifles would be great. I am planning to get a pcp, but not sure how much I need to spend. I go from a Maximus to a HW100 price range, but struggle with spending a lot on an air gun vs another powder burner.

Once you spend the money up front for the gun, pellets are a lot cheaper than bullets to shoot. :)

Not to mention the never ending ammo assembly line. I need to get back at it. I have bunches primed and ready to load.

But my Geo LDC will show up today in the mail so I will be able to stretch out my 1300kt as far as 80’ in the backyard.  Woohooo!

The little thing with the Walther barrel is way more accurate than I can shoot.

So hopefully all this lets up soon and we can have a fun shoot. Would be having a group of under 10 or so for just this year. Soon as there is news that it ok to get together i will get a date and time together for this. May have to change name to summer shoot at this time... if this opens up is anyone interested in a june/july get together

All contingencies will depend on how the wife feels about the situation lol dates and times may vary. Hopefully by then I can have more than 10 people,!! Last year I think we had close to 10 for the first year of the shoot and it was cold and windy that day. I'm putting up a radio tower currently at my house. Soon as that's done I will be getting a date together. Thinking 3rd weekend in July or first weekend in August since it's my birthday weekend anyways. I would do a porta potty like I did last year. And snacks will depend on safety whether they're provided or not lol

as of today, our Carlyle Lake Rendezvous (CLR) has been cancelled indefinitely.  so unless i magically finish renovating the master bath and sell the house, count me in for 1.   you're only a 2 hour drive north of me, so i'd be commuting each day.

There are a couple of hotels in the area mostly in Freeport. That's about a 120-30 minute drive to my house. Everyone is free to camp out for the night. I will do a porta potty again since it worked out well last time. I can get a sooner date son as Illinois lifts the gathering ban stuff. Looking At July 24-25th. Newbies are also welcome lol heck we are all newbies to something. Come and learn a bit about the airgun hobby. If your interested send me a PM with number of people and weather you plan to camp out or hotel it up

Yeah may just have to draw names, but i think there is plenty of room out here to stretch out haha i hope... I have it marked on my Calendar also for that date. I will put both your names down on a card bob if it comes down to having to do something of that sort. I would hate to have to do anything like that to much country hospitality out here haha i cant turn anyone away. Sounds like everyone is figuring out if the date works or will work. Great one step closer, any idea on distance everyone would enjoy. I think i can stretch a lane out to 200 yards or so if we go length wise of the property. Last year we mostly stayed at the 30 yards. I have several targets both traditional and field target if anyone wants to try that i will setup a small field target spot with tip downs or something. I will fog the yard for bugs the night before so hopefully they wont be a problem.

July 25th fun shoot is still on calendar. Looks like i am allowed 50 people out give or take a few. Will be bring your own drink and chow. Getting a head count roughly for amount interested. I will keep grass short anyone can camp out back if they wish. I will get a Port-a-Potty again this year. May try to convince a good buddy to smoke up some BBQ. There are two refrigerators in garage you can keep drinks cold in or food cold. i will bring the grill down encase anyone wants to cook up some food while they are shooting. Last year was windy and cold but still had a good turnout. Cant wait for the 25th to come soon enough. For those coming parking will be back behind house, pull in through grass as to avoid my steep driveway. I will have a sign up or some sort of marking of where to pull in at. Port-a-potty will be under tree also, should be placed Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. When you are out on these back roads please watch for farm equipment.

We have been getting ready to go for Saturday, but the dog really throws a wrench into it. She would roast in my truck in the sun beating on it.

She's afraid of the gun noise and wouldn't get out of the car. We tried that before at a different fun shoot. I've been checking the weather a couple times a day and it looks like it's gonna be too hot.
This really pis*** me off. We already topped off the guns with air. Anyone want a dog?

Maybe before the year is up we could have a one on one shoot Jerry if you can't make it. How does she do crated up? I could keep her I basement? Worst case you can't make it out this fun shoot. I've almost canceled it several times because of the heat myself. Had 5-10 people say no go because the heat and I fully understand.

Unforunately, I'm going to have to cancel as well. My sister is in the gospel ministry in Brazil, and she only comes home once every six years. She just called and tomorrow will probably be the last time we will be able to be together before she goes back to Brazil. So sorry about this!  :(

If you plan another shoot with Jerry, I'd come down later this year too (unless Jerry needs to be one-on-one for the dog). I should have my new Daystate Revere in a week or two and might be anxious to do some longer-distance shooting.

I will for sure plan another one this fall/winter. Come out whenever you would like also and target practice with me. I am disabled so i am home all the time lol.

I'd love to come out any other time. Our dog has never been in a crate so I don't know how she'd be with it. She's just scared of the noise and stays in the truck (like last time) but it was cooler. That would be great to shoot with you and Damon again.
Hopefully tomorrow goes well for you guys tomorrow.

Going to keep event going for tomorrow 10am til we get to hot (porta potty is here) but also talked to the wife and maybe we can squeeze another fun shoot in before the end of the year. Next one will be on a shorter notice tho, expect a week or two week notice so i can monitor the weather closer.

i just got home from an 18 mile bike ride and after re-hydrating, i'm loading up the truck.  i'm bringing lots of water and a towel for my head if i need it, but the umbrella should be enough, it's not like i'll be exerting myself sitting in a chair shooting.  8)

Look for the sign, park over by the tree and cornfield behind house. You will see a porta potty also under a tree. I'm the only house on the road. White House on top of hill.

see you around 10!

Well what a fun shoot thank you to Bob and his wife for stopping out 4+ hours away. Karl (wolverine) Thank you so much for stopping out. The fun shoot would have not been the same without you. I am soaked to have another one come fall winter. Or after seeing all the fun Karl had shooting the ground squirrels. I might have to have a ground squirrel shoot off.

Scott,

You were missed!  Lilly and I were there, we arrived after a 277 mile drive.  We had a great time.  Someday our paths will cross, maybe at Brandon's next shoot.  I think you could easily shoot in excess of 100 yards.

Maybe Lilly and I need a new motto, " Have Daisys will Travel."

I wish I could have been there, but in all honesty it was nice reconnecting with my aunt today after 30 years.
Her and Mom acted like "School Girl" sisters... at 75+ Years young, giggling and telling stories... I felt like to the adult! LOL

I will defiantly try to attend next time again, or even host my own.
