Anyone near the Chicagoland area or surrounding suburbs know where or how to look for permissions to shoot .22 cal p-rod? Very quiet gun, & I知 dying to get some trigger time.

Well it would be a drive for you but, look into "Hickory Hills Rod and Gun Club".

They are in Plainfield just off route 126 at I 55.  They have an airgun only range, and there is a dive shop 2 miles away to fill your tanks.

About an hour away from me when there痴 no traffic. I will definitely check it out. Thanks!

Maybe I can meet you down there sometime. I'm in the NW burbs. Also, check BAGA gun club in Bristol, WI. They have an airgun range and are probably closer to you.

Did you ever get out to BAGA? $10 to shoot for the whole day. They're probably going indoors soon, if not already. 30 yards with no wind is perfect conditions in which to dial in your P-Rod.

Maybe we can meet up one Saturday morning and head out there. I'm in Vernon Hills.

We would need your heater and a tent like this:

Great idea jerry!  You supply that tent, and I'll bring my heater. ;D

We could put a couple tents together and hang tarps as walls.

Cheaper.  ;)

I'm moving 30 minutes from there in the Orland area. Is this gun club LDC friendly? That's my main concern moving from Utah, where nobody cares, to IL.

Yeah. It's a pretty casual place. They have skeet/trap shooting on Saturdays though, but there is a separate airgun only area in the woods along a stream. The main range goes out to 100+ yards.

i've been stopped and had my game bag inspected twice this year.  1st time was on private property and the 2nd time was on state land.  both times i offered the DNR officers my rifles to shoot and they took me up on it.  the 1st two hadn't seen a pcp before.  the 2nd time, one of the officers commented on how more efficient my moderator was than his shrouded bantam.

I have never seen a DNR officer while out hunting up here. That's crazy that they have found you twice. And Chris I saw you were going to sell your rifle. I would keep it and get your foid card when you get here.

So, I just spent the last hour looking at gun ranges in the IL area. Compared to Utah, I'm massively discouraged. It honestly looks like that, unless you have private property or know someone who does, it's easier to just not being into airguns.

Unfortunately, for the area you're moving to, that is the case.  Unless you can secure a large and private homesite.  The Orland area is very congested.  If you're hard core about your hobbies, look for a home where you can enjoy them on the property or cloose by.   I love to fish and sail so moved to a private lake community.  It has its drawbacks, but I'm 2 blocks from a marina and boat ramps.

Thanks for the info. I wonder how far southwest I need to go to find 5 acres for a decent price.

Yeah, it's tough to be able to shoot around here without a good bit of land of your own.
Hopefully you don't NEED to be too close to the city, and can find something far enough away that's affordable.

I have just shy of 3acres out here in the Northwest part of the state and that's plenty for me. Honestly just find a house on edge of town by some fields or woods and build a backstop. You can always make friends with someone out in the country.
