Many bridges have been retrofitted with huge concrete structures in the water, built on the bottom and separate from the bridge, on both sides, to prevent such an incident?.... Expensive, maybe, but a lot cheaper than what happened here....

Back Room / Re: Books.« Last post by Novagun on Today at 05:17:07 PM »The first Dylan Thomas poem I read was on this forum . (Go not quietly into that good night.( i was so impressed that I bought a book of his poems at the local bookshop. I brouse it frequently. Some of the poems I understand and enjoy but a lot of them I just don't engage with. I keep going back in case something is going over my head and one day it might click but Dylan was a troubled person to my mind. Poetic skill sometimes but I am still searching.

Crosman-Benjamin Air Gun Gate / My Modified Benjamin Titan .22« Last post by Camel73 on Today at 05:15:45 PM »Hi all.
Thought I'd talk a bit about my Benjamin Titan NP .22 today. I'm an old guy. I bought it new about 10 years ago now. The last one they had. A lemon, lol. I vaguely recall ordering new seals and super moly paste, deburring, installing brass washers, adding an rc bearing to the trigger... How time flies. Just the other day it honked for the first time. Hmm, I suppose it's time for me to tear into it again. Still have the plank clamp. It has been a real pleasure over the years. It has worn the same simple 4x Simmons 22 mag scope since new and I can still ping a 2x3" piece of steel at 50 yards offhand with it. It has become a small corvid's bane. I find the noise to power ratio is really good and it reaches out with enough power for my uses. It has always locked up real tight. Breaking the barrel has always been a workout though... not sure why that is. I seem to remember just over 600fps with 14's in it, which seemed slow to me. Maybe my seal was too tight or something. It's got a decent, weird little wood grain to the stock, which I thought was plain at first but now have come to like it. Seems like you can see deeply into the wood at certain angles. I find it very solid feeling, with a bit of heft which seems to give me confidence bringing it to my shoulder. If I shake it, it will emit a rattle though. I'll look into that this time around. I have long ago found the way it likes to be held and the types of pellets it likes. Unfortunately, most pellets fall somewhat loosely into the chamber. I've avoided online ordering as I could usually find the ones it liked but recent visits have not been successful. Oh well. I needed better options for thicker pellets anyway I suppose. I actually started to try bumping up cheaper pellets. Surprisingly I was getting results haha. Haven't messed with it for a while now.though. 5
"Bob and Lloyds Workshop" / Re: Changing My Thinking About Slugs« Last post by rsterne on Today at 05:12:24 PM »Correct.... but if you do a lot of shooting at a few known distances, you can dial it in at each and have a log book.... I know Rimfire shooters frequently use them.... If you don't change the load (slug and velocity), and hence have a set time from chamber to muzzle, the tuning should still work for sending faster slugs on a lower trajectory, but it might overcompensate (or maybe not)....

Engineering- Research & Development / Re: Trying to add pressure sensors to LDC testing.« Last post by WhatUPSbox? on Today at 04:37:56 PM »They are just frame grabs from the video I linked. The only info is the frame rate (15K). Looking at the diameter, I would guess that it is a bare barrel.
The packets in the jet stream almost look like shock diamonds https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shock_diamond 9
Engineering- Research & Development / Re: Trying to add pressure sensors to LDC testing.« Last post by WobblyHand on Today at 04:20:40 PM »Is this series of photos straight out of a barrel, or is there some device on the end? Doesn't look like the end of a barrel.
Very interesting to see the almost packetized clumps of air, that are about a pellet diameter long. Like some sort of resonance in the air column was set up. 10
