Hawke Vantage IR 2-7x32. The IR series has an etched reticle. Nice scope a little cheaper than the Airmax. Not sure if it'll hold up to 125 isn't that a magnum?

Nice scope a little cheaper than the Airmax. Not sure if it'll hold up to 125 isn't that a magnum? It's going to be on the Daisy 880. I'm not familiar with the Airmax brand, but if the scope eventually gets moved it might end up on a powder burner. For now though intended use will be close range on that 880...
I'm sorry I missed some critical pieces of information. Airmax is Hawkes top airgun model. They have etched reticles. Fwiw. You can put any optic on an 880. At the ranges you specified you should be able to identify a hosp with any half decent scope. I prefer the Hawke scopes too. I would think a Vantage 2-7 AO would've been fine. Even with the wire reticle. The IR Vantage does have an etched reticle but not sure if it's worth it on a short range 880
Did you decide on the scope yet? I, too, want to buy a scope to use on the 880, but not for the long term. I’m happy with iron sights at the short distances I’ve been shooting so far, up to about 20 yds, and working my way up. I doubt I’ll be able to see a small target well farther than 25 yds. The idea behind putting the scope on this gun is because I am used to the gun. I plan to learn to use the new thing—the scope—on it and then remove the scope for use on a second gun that I have not chosen yet.The Hawke Vantage 2-7x32 AO would work for my intended shooting distances with either gun. The unchosen second rifle would be either another pumper or a PCP, so no need to worry about heavy recoil. The catch, or one of them is this. I would want to leave any stock iron sights on the rifles even with the scope mounted. How do I determine what rings to buy for, first, the Daisy, and later for maximum flexibility with a different rifle? The prices for scopes in this power range are not a problem, and I don’t care about matching gun price to scope price.
Leupold Freedom 3-9 is too much scope for the 880 and it's ANNOYING when one of the crosshairs has to be out of focus, especially when they're so fine to begin with.

Play with that focus and watch closely, one or the other can be sharply in focus...I'm blessed (cursed? ) with excellent closeup vision...

The occular is to adjust the reticle to your eye. The reticle is at the focal point of the oprics. If the reticle is sharp the image should be sharp.
