Rubber powered free-flight is a hoot.... Trimming for a good transition between the powered climb and the slow gliding descent is the key.... Throw away what you know about safe limits for the CG, and explore a lifting tail....
Frank Zaic's (ancient) books are the ticket, particularly "Circular Airflow"....

Thanks, Bob
I see Zaic was very active long before I was born, and has lots of books. The one you mentioned is here:
www.amazon.com/Circular-Airflow-Model-Aircraft-Frank/dp/B001OV16FW
With a few on ebay, such as this one:

This was a good book to learn how to start building rubber powered planes from scratch. I found it in a used bookstore about 15 years ago and built a few with my daughter. We had a lot of fun with them. I had built Guillows Kits in my youth and still enjoy the rubber powered planes on occasion now.

They might sound like a lot of work till you realize you only need 3-4 pumps for plinking.

That's pretty neat.
Here's
another good YouTube channel to browse
if one enjoys more conventionally sized rubber-powered models.
