Gamo rifles are garbage. I will never own one again.
Low end GAMO springers are fodder for the big box brick and mortar stores. They target first time buyers with little knowledge/experience with airguns. It's bread and butter for GAMO.OTOH.. My GAMO Urban is one of my favorite airguns.
If I'm not mistaken, GAMO now owns Daisy as well. I think that includes Winchester.A bit of history....
I have one gamo currently, and i searched for it. a whisper in .177. With a little love, a 12 fpe tune, a trigger adjustment and cleaning it shoots .667 in grouips at 40 yards. or with the open sights (which are fantastic) a 1/2 in at 20 (my sight is not that good). Was it perfect when i got it? no. has it come through the end a great rifle? absolutely... And i have owned a bunch, even before the IGT (venturi rams, anyone remembers? lol). They are by far better guns than the B19 based crosman and benjis (which are besed on gamos platform, by the way). So ELGAMO purchased BSA airguns in 1984, and a lot of their springers have crossed bred. The metal barrel on your 220,440,890 is good? guess what. it is probably cold hammer forged A la BSA. Gamo Stutzen anyone?, yup, also called a BSA airsporter RB2. Gamo CF line? cfx, accu, cf30 and 40... Ever heard of a BSA polaris? same gun. BSA meteor MK7? wow, it looks like a hunter 890... Gamo is one of the largest airgun manufacturers in the world, and if you think people are not happy, well you are not counting the millions of guns pushed by all the big box stores. By the way, they are still made in Spain, not China. The material is superior and the finish also. As far as accuracy? the metal barrels are great, but the liners are not far behind and they knock a good pound off the gun, as well as providing you a breakbarrel for about 100 bucks. They are not HW quality at all, but you take your time to sort yours out, they do shoot just as well (blasphemy). The PCP? if the urban doesnt say (made in the UK, or if you got a late one, made in the EU) i'll eat my hat. mine looks exactly as my BSA scorpion... wait, so does the coyote!, and the Bucaneer... All those are made by BSA at BSA. To this day, the Urban is by far the best deal for a PCP ever. 315$? and you get BSA accuracy? you know thay are selling them at a loss... and then they go and drop the price to 220 on clearance! those Spaniards must have a screw loose... or they sale so many springers that it doesnt even make a blip on the map to undersell the urban... They are huge, and they make guns for the masses. If you want a good Gamo, buy a more expensive Gamo. anyone remembers the gamo hunter Extreme in .22? that was a scary rifle... The viper express? hey!? but they gave it to us. And the new "swarm" we are all talking about... we are such gold fish... they gave it to us in the 90s... the gamomatic. anyone remembers?. I also picked up at a gun show a little carbine called the 500 sporter... tuned that gun and sold my slavia. Yup. that accurate. Im sorry you had a bad experience, but dont write off an entire universe of models because some were not satisfactory. (by the way, i had a Gamo whisper CSI in .22 that only shot wadcutters... the squirrels dropping at 35 to 45 yards did not seem to mind that the pellet was flat. It was crazy accurate, and the smack it gave them was pretty spectacular. I think you should have kept the second gamo you had)Some ggod Gamos will come your way, i promise. i am now searching for one of the shadows in .25 that made their way here... wish me luck
The CFX may not be a next generation CF. Not unless BSA incorporated a fairly unique rotary tap. On the Stutzens, one thing they had going for them was an extended cocking arm. Some underlevers could benefit from that.
