Title: Free Spreadsheet from triggertreat Rev 05
Post by: triggertreat on August 09, 2018, 06:25:03 PM
Click here to download the free Rev 03 spreadsheet (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bp6ztFN7MqbnGLvh9dhwrka80fxTG0fT/view)

In Revision 03, I have updated the free spreadsheet to include some new additional features.  I think those of you that have downloaded the previous versions will really appreciate these new features.

Here are some of the new features in Rev 03:
The ability to view all three chart strings at once has remained unchanged from the previous versions as well as the ability to view those strings together on a single chart for analysis.

Feel free to download this free spreadsheet from the link above and check it out.  It is only going to be shared on the GTA.  It works great with Windows and Excel.  You are on your own with other platforms that will not run MS Excel fully.

Here are some snapshots of the spreadsheets:

I have not heard of any problems yet, so I am assuming all is well with the spreadsheet.  Just let me know if you have any questions.
Title: Re: Free Spreadsheet from triggertreat Rev 03

Click here to download the free Rev 03 spreadsheet (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bp6ztFN7MqbnGLvh9dhwrka80fxTG0fT/view)

I have refined the Rev 03 spreadsheet a little more.  Although you could have easily sorted and filtered data in the "Data Sort table", I didn't like all of the clutter in the main "Saved Strings Data" sheet, which was showing all of the default string data from the two "Saved Strings" sheets, making it harder to view the actual string inputs.  I find this revised sheet much easier to view the actual saved strings and easier to compare them without all of the default data showing too.  I also made a few other minor tweaks in some other areas of the spreadsheet.

For those who have been using the spreadsheet, you can easily just copy and paste your stored strings over to this revised spreadsheet if desired.

Here is what the new revised "Saved Strings Data" sheet looks like.  You can see that all of the default string data is now blank in the cells and only actual string data are being displayed.  Once you add string data into one of the twenty saved string locations, that data will appear here on this sheet too.

Compared to the old spreadsheet:

Hey, amazing work on this app!  (Sorry, calling it sheet would be doing it a disservice!)  Could you explain the Avg. lbs/Shot?  Is that referring to PSI used per shot?  I assume that it closely tied with your efficiency number.  Is a higher efficiency number better?  Sorry for noob questions and feel free to kick me if I missed these details in docs (i.e. RTFM).

Thank you very much!  I would much rather you give that donation to someone in need or place in a Church offering plate where it would do the most good.  The free spreadsheet is my way of giving back to the GTA which has given so much to me.

Thank you!  The Avg. lbs/Shot is referring to psi per shot.  It's simply taking all shots and dividing them by the total air used.  I am unable to exactly calculate the air used per shot due to the efficiency of air use at the higher/beginning psi shots verses the mid to lower psi shots in an unregulated gun.  If regulated and using the same air per shot throughout the string, the calculation will be more accurate.

Yes, the higher the efficiency number, the better the tune.  The efficiency calculation takes into account the pellet weight, total air used and the shot count.

Thanks for your interest!

Thank you for doing this (and sharing)!

I've often wished for a "goal seeking" spreadsheet where you could enter the shot string, a desired maximum ES and the sheet would find and highlight the area of the shot string that meets that goal.

Thanks!  No, this spreadsheet cannot do that.  It does however come somewhat close in that it does highlight all shots within a 2.09% or a 4.09% ES within the chart tabs, which are the most commonly used ES goals in air gunning.  You can also look at the charts and easily see what your ES would be if you were to eliminate the highest ES and look at the next highest ES and so forth, being that every ES is listed for each shot, which I think is great to be able to see what could've been instead of a single view that a single ES search typically would provide.

I have been going through the spreadsheet and feel pretty good about it now.  I did find one issue that I blamed on Excel.  I have fixed that issue, so be sure you have all the latest fixes.

To determine this, if you put in a starting pressure of 3000psi and a ending pressure of 2000psi in one of the "Saved Strings" (or anything that would result in 1000psi used), and your result in the PSI Used in the "Saved Strings Data" tab is showing a blank in that associated cell instead of 1000, then you don't have the latest fixes.

The latest fixes can be dowloaded from any of the links on this thread or here:  Click here to download the free Rev 03 spreadsheet (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bp6ztFN7MqbnGLvh9dhwrka80fxTG0fT/view)

Title: Re: Free Spreadsheet from triggertreat Rev 03

Today I added a 1% ES column to the three charts that will highlight any shots within a 1.04% ES, just like the 2% and 4% columns do.
Title: Re: Free Spreadsheet from triggertreat Rev 03
Post by: triggertreat on September 24, 2018, 05:09:14 PM

Today I've added a few more enhancements and tweaks to the Free Spreadsheet app.  Click here to download the free Rev 03 spreadsheet (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bp6ztFN7MqbnGLvh9dhwrka80fxTG0fT/view)

I added an average FPS line to the three charts.  I like the visual view of the average FPS across the string.  This line will auto update with whatever string you throw at it.

I also added a string identifier cell.  This better identifies which saved string out of the 20 saved strings you are currently viewing, and is in all three charts, too.  It will auto update as well.  Both of these additions can be seen in the first image circled in red.

I also added a BAR to PSI and a PSI to BAR converter on the Caldwell Chrono sort tab which is circled in red in the second image.  I got tired of going online to convert BAR to PSI.  This one is quick and handy being it's right in the spreadsheet.

Edit to add. Still does it with accurate pressure data.

Ok, the error that BSJ found where shot# 28 was being skipped in chart 1 only has been fixed.  I found that row was hidden for some reason.  You can click on any previous posted links or here to get the fix.  Click here to download the free Rev 03 spreadsheet (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bp6ztFN7MqbnGLvh9dhwrka80fxTG0fT/view)

Sorry guys and gals, one more update.  I added an average FPS line to the second graph in all three chart tabs like I did in the main charts yesterday.  Should've added them then.

I think this will be the last update unless me or someone else finds an issue somewhere.  Building this spreadsheet has been a long fun road and a challenge for me.  I started with a blank spreadsheet and built this one while learning Excel along the way because I didn't have a spreadsheet like I wanted.  I hope all enjoy using it that can.

Thanks for that spreadsheet!!  I'm not an expert with Excel at all, but I can certainly change pellet weights and fps, lol!  I also changed the starting and ending psi, but the efficiency won't work for me.  What am I forgetting/missing?  Even without the efficiency, it is majorly helpful keeping tunes under 4% and 2%!

Thanks for your interest, and glad you're getting some good use out of it.

You're almost there with getting the efficiency to work.  You need the pellet weight, PSI start and stop, and also the volume of air available.

So for the Res cc (reservoir cc volume) you will need to enter data there.  For example, a non regulated Marauder has a 215cc reservoir so you would enter 215 in the Res cc cell, or whatever cc capacity your gun reservoir has.  Many can be found on the PA website under specifications.

You will also need to fill in the Reg cc (regulated cc volume) and the Reg set point cells.  If not regulated, you want to put a zero in those two cells.

If regulated, you want to enter the reg set point and also the reg cc volume you have.  For example, a regulated Marauder typically has 34cc of regulated cc volume and 181cc of reservoir volume for a standard gun with a regulator installed.

Hope this helps.  There are a couple of example strings you can look at on the spreadsheet.  One is regulated and the other is not.

That's what I did wrong, I didn't put a 0 in the reg section!  I did the cc, but didn't fill in the reg part, since the gun I was doing doesn't have a regulator  :-[  Thanks!!

Again, AWESOME job on that spreadsheet Keith!

Well, I thought I was done with the spreadsheet updates, and do believe I am now.  I added a kinetic energy conversion chart to the spreadsheet in version 04 dated 9/29/18.

You can now find FPE values by manipulating the FPS and pellet weights.  Or, find the FPS by manipulating the FPE and pellet weight.  Or, find the pellet weight needed for a given FPE and FPS.

No more going to ChairGun to do these conversions for me.

Keith, is there a way to adjust the scale of the axis that displays FPS in the charts?  Chart 1 is 100 to 1000 and shows a nice linear line graph, charts 2 & 3 are only about 100 points apart so he resulting graph appears to be all over the place even though the Standard Deviation is less than it is in chart 1.  It would be great if all 3 graphs used the same 100 to 1000 scale.

Also, under the conversions, could you add a cubic inch to cubic centimeter converter?  This is becoming a really awesome tool!  Thank you for sharing and continuing to update and improve it!

Paul, there are pulldowns already on the main charts where you can adjust the chart axis.  There are minimums and maximums along with resets back to the Excel defaults  Yes, I can add that to the conversions.

Keith, the drop down for the Chart Axis isn't working for me.  It may be because I'm using a Mac and the Mac version of Excel.  Is there a way you can set the default for all 3 charts to the same as Chart 1 when you do the next revision?  That may fix it for me since I probably won't change it from that setting anyway.  Thanks for adding the ci to cc converter!

What happens when you select "Reset Max" and then "Reset Min" from the dropdown?  These will reset the maximum and minimum axis back to Excel's auto default values for whatever it needs to display the strings.  You wouldn't want a fixed axis set in Excel (instead of auto) because some strings would not display depending on their values.

P.S.  The spreadsheet has been updated with the requested ci to cc converter.

Are you referring to the "Chart Axis" dropdown (see below)?  If so, that's what's not working, when I click on it, it's treating it like it's an object not a dropdown (see second pic).  I even tried it on my work PC in Excel, and it's not working there either.  Not sure if anyone else is having this issue or not, it may have to do with the fact the spreadsheet is locked from changes.  It may work fine for you since you created it on your computer, but it's not working on another computer.  Just a thought...

Hmmm, I may have to try downloading it again and pay more attention when it opens!  Thanks...

UPDATE: Well, downloaded it again and paid attention this time.  I only received one pop-up, and it said I had to open it as read-only due to compatibility issues!  I'm using version 16.16.2 of Excel for Mac.  I suspect it's the "for Mac" part that's causing the problem!

Yes, that's a Mac thing not supporting macros.  Not much I can do for you there because if that's the case, there is a lot of unsupported code running in the background besides the chart pulldown.  I take it you are unable to send strings from the "Saved Strings" to the charts also?

I haven't had a chance to play with this version of the spreadsheet but in previous versions, I was able to open as read-only, save as a new document, then open the new document to get everything working in Excel on my Mac. Like I said, I have not tried it with this version yet so YMMV. Still worth a shot.

I tried that too, it didn't work.  I may have an older version of Office on my Mac, I don't even know what the latest version is.  The one on my Mac is Ver 16.16.2.

I made some changes/improvements to the chart axis pulldown selections. I put in a lot more maximum and minimum axis selections in the pulldown for the three main charts to cover more types of string inputs.  This will allow for more manual fine tuning of the chart's axis when displaying the strings for those who to choose to alter Excel's default axis.  You don't have to change the axis, but it does come in handy at times.  I didn't like being limited to what Excel decides the axis should be and is why I put this pulldown in the charts.

I also added in an "Excel Auto" selection so you can easily return back to Excel's automatic axis selections for both the maximum and minimum axis.  It is a good idea to select the "Excel Auto" selection to reset the axis back to Excel's defaults when done with the manual selections so the next string will display correctly and not be off of the chart if it is not within the axis settings.  The "Reset Max" and "Reset Min" will only reset the respected axis back to Excel's auto selection depending on which one you select.

I also added in an additional string description heading for all three charts in the "String 1,2,3" tab.  These new string description will automictically update based on the strings sent to the charts from the "Saved String" tabs.  They will also update with any description you type into the charts "Saved String #" cell located in the notes section.

The below image is the new list of selections in the chart axis pulldown.

Thanks for the kind words!  I know the app wont work on every platform out there.  Not sure any app will.  I certainly do wish some apps would work on my PC so I understand the frustrations.  It is what it is and if I knew a way to make it better for everyone I would.  I'm not sure how it would work on these smaller platforms like cell phone and tablets.  There's a lot going on under the hood for this app to do what it does.  It's just an app I built for myself and decided to share if anyone was interested.  Not much else to it than that.  I do have at least one more upgrade coming at some point.  I don't like scrolling and will put in a few macros for easier navigation on some sheets so we can just simply click a button instead of scrolling.

A new Rev. 05 version of the Free Spreadsheet App (Rev 05 11-16-18) is now available for downloading.

There are new chart features added like indicators showing Hi/low FPS, FPE and ES results in the charts.  Also, the "String Compare" tab has been revamped to better show comparison results between the three chart strings.  Many other tweaks throughout as well.

I'm going to attempt a video tutorial showing a how to on the many features of this Free Spreadsheet App coming up soon.

Here are some of the new features highlighted in red ovals:

Thanks, but always a shooter.  I am very detailed which frequently gets me in trouble dealing with those that aren't.

Not a developer by any stretch.  I couldn't find a spreadsheet that fit me, so I made my own and decided to share it.  One thing for sure is that it is a one of a kind spreadsheet.  I'm embarrassed to share how long it took me to figure out Excel to make this.  I did start from scratch.  I'll just say it took awhile.

Well I'm just a good ole country boy with more common sense than skills.  Someone with some smarts might not have the same lengthy learning curve.

The good news is that there's one already available that shows the best part of the string and it's free, but if you want to skin a cat a different way, I'll be interested.

loic, I do appreciate your input, but it would take rewriting code and recreating the spreadsheet for APK.  There is a lot of code running in the background along with some rudimentary tricks too, and I am not up for starting all over.  Excel for droid can't handle the VBA coding either so you'll just have to enjoy it as is or create your own with APK suites.  Besides, it is much better on the big screen as designed.

I can't tell much of what you're inputting from the pics.  That's a typical Excel error message when a formula can't calculate properly.  Make sure to check your inputs.  An O is not a zero or decimal points that shouldn't be etc. is most likely to cause.

I downloaded your excellent spreadsheet yesterday. It works great with one exception. The average fps line on charts 2 and 3 don't show the average fps value. For the title on these lines I get "[CELLRANGE]". On chart 1 the value does show correctly. I am using Windows 10 and Excel 2007. Maybe a compatibility issue?

Thanks!  Yes, there are some compatibility issues with the older Excel 2007 when running the compatibility checker.  You might try downloading it again though.  I don't know why that issue wouldn't show up in chart 1 also.  They are all the same.

What I do is enter the previous number again.  That way there is no advantage in the results.  Hopefully there aren't many of those.  The spreadsheet won't like any spaces or letters like Err as it is looking for a number.

Hope this helps  ;D

I hope you can get it figured out.  I am impressed with you having more than one language.  I only do English, and not very well either.

All you really need to do is enter the velocity (in FPS) in the FPS column.  Enter the pellet weight (in grains) and the start and stop pressures (in PSI).  This will give you a graph display.  Put in your HPA and plenum (if regulated) volumes (in PSI) to get the efficiency reading if you want that info.  Use the sample strings that are included in the app to help you get over the hump.

Now when I say the man I do not mean it in the sense of an oppressive power that be, including the government and corporations; the system, as coordinated outside of one's control, but more along the lines of an approbation or form of praise indicating that the subject is currently standing out amongst their peers even though they have no special designation or rank.  ;D

I wish I had your Excel skills!  I'd love to figure out how to activate all the tools and options when using it on a Mac!  I feel I'm only seeing a fraction of it's true capabilities.

I've been enjoying the awesomeness of the spreadsheet!

But I'm wondering if there is a way to input the shot velocities in meters per second and then toggle the whole string over to fps.

My new Chinese wifi enabled barrel mounted chrony can only display the data in m/s, on the wifi device.
 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32872171216.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dXTsOf3 (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32872171216.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dXTsOf3)

The data can be displayed on the Chrony in fps, but that defeats the usefulness of viewing the data on my tablet along with the spreadsheet.

Duh. I can just make my own sheet easy enough! [=3.28084*A2]

Anybody. know of a way to force the data copied from the output field to round to the nearest single decimal place? I can make my own sheet display one decimal, but the copied data goes to five places when I paste it to Triggertreat's sheet.

Where do you mean exactly that this is true?  Also, how are you copying and pasting?  I have some notes about this topic in the Spreadsheet Notes tab.  See copying and pasting data.

Ah Rev. 6! That's the ticket! Where can we get that!? Could you make it a good deal longer than 20 rows too? I don't think I'd ever shoot that many but my Chrony can record 120 entries...

I just discovered Paste Special -> Values and Number Formatting That's carries over the format of the cell in the sheet I created myself.

I was using Paste Special -> Values which was pulling over the whole calculated conversion to several decimal places regardless of the formatting of the cell.

Okay Brian,  You can now download the updated rev 06 version.  This revision includes the MPS to FPS conversion for the chronographs that only display in MPS.

Thanks for bringing this up!  I'm not willing to rework the entire spreadsheet, but this was quick and easy to add-in.

Any of the existing links, or the one in my signature will get you to the latest version to download.

Or, just click the links below:

Click here to download a Free Spreadsheet App (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bp6ztFN7MqbnGLvh9dhwrka80fxTG0fT/view)

Click here to download the Free Spreadsheet App tutorial (https://drive.google.com/file/d/19zkqg807dQFquo-QvmjNyX1UW-SH0xWb/view?usp=sharing)

Attached is an image of the new conversion chart.  There were some other minor fixes done to the new Rev 06 spreadsheet as well.

Help me out a little bit here.  What chart, or all charts?  How are you copying pasting?  No one else including myself have this issue.  I don't know if there is an issue or not.  I'll look into this.

I'm copying the text from the conversion chart. With Right click + Copy.

Then I Right Click, Paste Special -> Values and Number Formats into one of the Saved Strings. It looks fine in the Saved String. No decimal numbers visible.

Then I click a colored block and the data gets sent to the corresponding Chart and it updates. The suppressed decimal numbers are now visible in the graphs.

I'm running a new Win 10 PC with Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus.

Are you able to see the attachments from my earlier post?

Thanks!  Like Ken said, with the right app to run an Excel file it will to a degree, like the MS Excel app for Android Ken mentioned.  This app isn't powerful enough to handle the activeX controls, but you can still use many other features like the three charts and the comparison charts, etc.

This app can only fully be appreciated when used as designed running on a windows PC and using a recent version of Excel on a decent sized monitor.  There is a lot going on under the hood.  The efficiency formula alone is 136 characters long for example.  Took me a while to get that one right, but some of the formula is working with the chart in different scenarios.

A little history:  I built this spreadsheet for myself because I couldn't find one like I wanted.  Later, I decided to share it for free to other like-minded air gunners.  There is nothing more to it.  If it works for you great.  If you are on some other platform that it was not designed for, you are own your own.  My eyes aren't good enough to use on these smaller platforms, so I have no desire to do up an APK version, plus it couldn't be appreciated fully on such small devices, sorry.

I really had high hopes for this spread sheet but it doesn't display the data correctly at all. For example, in "string compare", the displayed data for two shot strings doesn't have any correlation to each other or the graph. See attached picture. The fps of the first graph is 657fps compare to the second graph which is 637fps. I would expect the graph with 657 fps would be displayed higher due to being a larger number, and both numbers don't correlate to the FPS numbers to the left. I down loaded the rev06 3-3-2020. Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong or there's a later version with fixes.

Sorry you are not enjoying the Free Spreadsheet.  Make sure you are running the app in Windows 10 and using Excel 2019 for best use of the app.  Older revisions/versions can cause slight issues, blame Excel.  I am not sure what you are running the app on, but maybe download the app again.  I just downloaded the app and it looks fine to me just looking at it briefly in that particular tab you are referring to as shown in the attached image.  You should be seeing an axis on both sides for each string (see attached image). What about the rest of the app?  There are lots of other useful features, what about those tabs?

Hi there, thanks for sharing your work with fellow pcp airgun enthusiasts. Very much appreciated! I didn't know there are numbers on both sides of the graph at the y-axis. Now it all makes sense! However, is there a way to change the numbers for the y-axis so both sides are the same? If both sides are different, like what you showed in your attachment, it's like comparing apples to oranges because both are at different scale. I think it's easier to tune if both numbers on both y-axis are the same.

Thank you!  Yes there is.  I struggled on which way to set the axis up for multiple string comparisons with many different velocities that could be encountered in this section.  The way you suggested is good at displaying some string comparison scenarios, and is the way I had it initially, but then decided on the way you see it today to cover more string comparison scenarios.  The best way is to have it unlocked with the understanding of how to change these setting within Excel when needed, but that's not the case for many and unlocking the spreadsheet will not happen as there is much going on under the hood that could become a big headache for me if one were to dabble with the coding.  I could probably create some VB coding to allow toggling of these axis for both ways mentioned, but I am in a different place these days and would be a very low priority now.  You can still look at three different strings on one screen in the other comparison tab as a compromise.  Hope this helps.

Yes, you can enter a string manually or edit an existing string that was sent over from the Saved Strings tab.  When doing this realize this manually entered string will be overwritten and lost when sending a different string from the Saved Strings tabs.  Watching the tutorial video can help to get you more familiar with the app.

Yes, just enter your new values into the FPS column on the graph page.  You can hit the "clear all" button to clear out the old string and to get back to the default settings before you enter in a new string manually.  Or you can just select all in the FPS column then right click and hit clear all to enter in a new string manually.

Post a screen shot and what screen size you are using.  I am looking at the 100-shot string example and am not seeing any overlapping on a 24" screen.  There can be some bunching up of the numbers when you approach the string limit of 186 shots.  You would just use the data in the left columns with such a long string as that.

Cool beans!  Those custom axis settings can fool you sometimes when switching from string to string, but I have found this feature to come in handy at times to move a string up/down on the graph for better viewing instead of just being limited to Excel's automatic axis selection.  You can always select the "Auto exec" to go back to Excels automatic axis selection.

itīs precisely the auto setting that causes it, the previous issue was also solved by going into settings and exchanging "." and ","

how do you get the psi and es numbers on the bottom to not overlap each other?

I have no idea what you are referring to.  It sounds like you may have a bad copy and need to download the new file I recently updated.  I see no issues with the updated file.  It could also be that you have an older version of Excel.  Either way I am glad you have the issue resolved.

Yes, the y-axis can be configured either way and I went back and forth on which way would be best for the masses.  I am not sure how the latest app axis is configured currently.  Neither way is perfect depending on what strings are being compared.  I have not focused on this app in quite some time now as most have new gadgets they use now for their air guns and data.

Of course!
New expensive gadgets, (some not fully vetted) will always entice folks away from the properly working, free, alternative
Thanks, triggertreat, for a truly functional tool that has served me well for a few years
