Very happy with the results!!

Last year I purchased a BSA XLT, one of the very last UK built ones. It was unfortunately a German export version(7,5j). As some of you may have read in my previous post, there where some mods to be done. Since then I've been at it and I thought I'd share the results. I removed the original spring(7,5J - 200mm) and reached it with a 12fpe version (260mm), the funny thing is, is that I had the correct spring just laying around!! It was in fact a spring from a walther lgv 20J rifle, but the dimensions where exactly the same, except it was 60mm longer. It now has a very quick cycle. not very harsh, but a dull thud when discharged. Accurate? I'd say, I shot a few good 5 shot groups of around18-23mm @ +-26-27meters. The cross bolt works very well, absolutely ZERO sideway play at all!! a little stiff, but this should wear in over time as the breach block used by BSA has not been smoothed under a surface grinder on either side and been left "raw" from the foundry. I also had to file a bit away at the stock to get the new cross bolt pin to fit, I bungled that up a bit but have repaired it. Doesn't look to great though

No this is just a more complete update on the XLT with a few more pics, so it is the same cross bolt I originally made. As for the spring, I took out the original 200mm spring and replaced it with a 260mm spring from a walther lgv 20J rifle with the same ID, OD and gauge.

Perhaps some black paint on the exposed pin.

No, I like it that way. I'll be replacing all bolts and screws with stainless ones aswell as machining a new back end for the action as this one is plastic and a new thread protector for the muzzle end, all from 316 stainless.

So I took the XLT to the range again for a second test yesterday. Over the crony it done a steady 9.5FPE, an average of 710 Fps and an extreme spread of 11Fps with H&N FTT's. As for groupings with JSB 8,44's it only managed a best of 1,5“@27m. I changed to the H&N's and the groups shrank to 20mm and less. This little beesa is going to make a fine pester within 30m. She is definitely a keeper!!
So there it is, another rifle in the armoury. Until next time, shoot straight!
Cheers

It just gets better and better....
I finally found the right pellet for the XLT and it happened by accident!! I was loading up to get to the range yesterday when I took the wrong tin of pellets, H&N baracuda hunters. I thought, what the *(&^, let's try them. It was a a bit windy yesterday with 15km/h gusts. So here is what happened with the first 10 shots at 25m with the barracuda hunters...

Very nice Branden! I had the same issues with the breech blocks on the last 2 BSA spring guns I had, side to side play was un acceptable!!!!! I see u have made a fix for that? I've been wanting to buy a new Lightning SE, not the XL, their only available thru import from Spain to the U.S. from vendors from Spain, so its not like I can look at what I'm purchasing before doing so! I do not want to buy 1 unless I know I'm not going have the same issues, Returning it would be a pain in the u know what! and the wait time, I don't know if it worth the gamble?

It's not worth it! I was lucky to see what I got before I made the purchase. Rather save a little more and get a weihrauch, you'll be far happier. I only got the bsa because I knew what I was getting and I was willing to do the work and get it working properly. Best of luck bud🤞👍
