I have a XS12 .177 fully tuned from Mike.
It's taken 4 pigeons out to 23 yards. 1 pellet for each Bird. The second pigeon I harvested took I think 3 or 4 shots but I was shooting over it. The gun is so quiet that with just a little back ground noise it just SAT and looked at me till I realized what I was doing 😂
And it's very accurate
I also have 2 xs25's very nice trigger's very powerful. Accurate dependable. But a lot louder. Oh and now I have a slip on LDC for the 12 yes it works and is even more stelthey 😊😊😊😊😉😙

I bought a Diana240 as a springer trainer when it went on sale for $99. Ithink it shoots inthe 600 fps range. Very accurate rifle for the office 10m range. I made the weight same as my field target hw97 by ziptying a small hand weight to scope.

The trouble with detuning magnum (not ubermagnum) rifles is they were never designed to be 550-650 fps guns. The pistons are too heavy, compression tubes and air volumes too long/large. Detuning gives a much longer lock time, and springers are hold sensitive to start with. Maybe if you could get a longer piston rod, reducing the stroke on a factory gun, it might be feasible but it's best to get a slower, "smaller" gun to start with. To make a comparison, it's like dowloading a 7mm magnum to .30-30 levels. Sure, can be done but won't be as efficient.

I have detuned x25s and Diana 34s to the 600 feet per second level. I found that there was still a lot of recoil due to a heavy piston. X25s and 34 make their power with a long stroke which is why they are hold sensitive. In my opinion 750 feet per second is more reasonable for these rifles.
I agree with the above comments on the xs12, HW 30, and the Diana 240. The 240 is my personal favorite, max velosity 580, 7.5j or 5.5 foot pounds. Hope this helps.

If you really want a softer shooting gun that mimics a 34, find a 24. I used to think these were "kid's guns" until I hand one in my hands. They are a scaled down 34.
