Does such a beast exist or is it the Loch Ness monster of air guns. According to the literature they were only made in 1949. Does anybody know any close estimates as to how many were produced. It seems like no one on the forum has one. That's why I'm wondering if they exist. Has anyone seen one at a gunshow or flea market or elsewhere?

I've seen a 1 or 2 over the years. I got lucky and got one with nice wood, but need to send it off to have the front site resoldered and the rear sight fixed.

That's a nice one. Is that second pin original it's not a regular roll pin. What is wrong with the sights. where can you find the knurled screw and knurled nut. They get lost a lot of times. Does it have the screws on the forearm. Can you take closeups of the forearm and the breech both sides.

Yes, it is in my collection. The production numbers come from research I did when writing my book. The information is also in Ron Elbe's book.

What is the title of your book. I've read Ron Elbe's book. Don't remember yours.

Thanks, I had a suspicion it might be him, but I wasn't sure. I snapped to it too late, I had already posted. Also I wanted to know where I could see the figures. I don't believe I see them on that page, but I might just be missing them. I am going to see where I can find the book. This might sound stupid but why is it called a slab stock and what makes it different from the 1950-1951 model. What's the difference in the sights. What is the front sight called for the !949 SLAB STOCK Sheridan Silver Streak. I know they talk about a Partridge sight and about an undercut sight Is it one and the same?

Joe, I'm sorry to say that my book is no longer in print and would probably be difficult to find a copy. If you look at the second picture I posted above you will notice how flat the side of the stock/forearm is. This is what the name "slab stock" refers to. Except for the use of slotted head screws to attach the trigger guard and forearm wood, the rifle is basically the same as the 1950. In 1951 there was a minor change to the bolt which necessitated a small hole on the right side of the receiver. The front sight is undercut (trailing edge is slanted forward). Some time in 1951/early '52, what is referred to as the Patridge front sight (trailing edge curved rearward) appeared. There are some other minor design features on the 1949 that are detailed in my book.

Never even heard of a "Slab Stock".
Well I will keep my eyes open for sure on one of these rare beasties.

Great pictures & info, Jake.
A couple of you asked me, but I believe the earliest Model C I have right now is a 1951.

The earliest one I had was a '51 until I came across a slab sided 1949 in a collection I recently purchased. There was an A in there too!

Yeah, I still have it. I'll try to take a pic and post later. It is the one that I picked up on Craigslist for $25 and required a lot of TLC to restore it. It shoots harder than all my other Sheridans now!
