For us old farts this is a long running debate... At least in my mile corner.
Flash back 40 years. The neighbor kid had a Sheridan Blue Streak... I was not so "wealthy" and saved my pop-bottle refund money to buy a Benjamin 342. We shot the snot out of everything... he hits, I loose. Next time I come out on top... and so it goes through adolescences.
Now tonight I am shooting them both in the new new 10M vintage target match with my "prize like new" Vintage Blue Streak.... it does well... very well.
On a whim I try my heart-throb rebuilt Benji 342... WOW!
both at 5 pumps... both performing well... the 342 just performs BETTER!
Just like they did 40+ years ago.
I truly want to love this Sheridan 'Streak. After all it is the Mac Daddy..... but my old name Stake Benjamin 342
FLAT OUT KICKED IT'S BUTT
.
40 years later.. Apples to apples.. nothin changed. Benjamin had it right all along.
Bring it on...... I am a Benji believer!!!

I grew up the same way. I had a 347 and my buddy had the silver streak. The streak won on the penetration of things shot.
fun times....and yes I own both.

shoebox : that makes sense...In a 177 vs 20 sot of way.. tonight was accuracy.
I was both surprised and smitten.

after all this years , many sheridans and benjis have come and go... but right now i only got one. the good old 392. at 5 pumps it shoots crosman prems at 565 fps into a quarter at 20 yards, open sights (optimized... a bit of paint and moved the rear one as far back as it can go to extend sighting radius... try it. night and day). in my eyes it is the most practical air rifle out there.i would say that the 342 would be too...

I cannot speak for the 342 (although it is definately in my sights) but I can speak for the Streak (vintage). I’ve shot a few sessions on this target match thingamagig with two of my Streaks & they are tack drivers.
I yet to give the 392P’s a go. We’ll just have to wait & see, but what I will tell you is the 392P has a noticeable increase in knockdown power over the Streak on small game. If I can post numbers with it to that of the Streak’s, I would have to say advantage Benji. Although the advantage in accuracy is going to be tough to beat simply because of the JSB 13.73gr. I have never seen a better packaged or cleaner/consistant load produced then those coming from Pyramyd Air.

My 342 was purchased in the late 1960's and would shoot the lights out of anything it was put up against. Unfortunately in my last across country move I misplaced most of the internals. Hopefully I will locate them some day in 2 shipping containers and one boxcar of my accumulated "stuff".

Man, it's a tough one.
I really enjoy both equally.
They each have their own charm to me.

Very interesting, I have both as well but have never sat down and done a side by comparison/competition with them.
Perhaps I should.

Don't let those Streaks get in your way.. Pretty sure I could open up space on my racks for them.

We have a number of Sheridans and also some 90s vintage 397s with walnut stocks. As to accuracy, it's a toss up when you find the pellet the gun likes, though the the Benjamins have a distinct preference for the heavy 177s.
There are some features on both brands that I like. On the Sheridans, I like the simplicity of the action and, for whatever reason, I find them easier to pump than the Benjamins. They're also my sentimental favorite, since I grew up shooting Sheridans.
On my vintage Benjamins, much easier to add a scope mount and I do prefer the tang safety to the old Sheridan rocker safety.
All in all, the two brands are similar enough, yet different enough, for me to justify owning both.

This is true in ways I should have included in my original post... They are two different animals.
I was only shooting the JSB .20 diabolo out of My Sheridan, I have a tin of the Benji Cylindrical that I should have tested last night as well. That may have skewed the results as I knew the favorite pellet of the 342 and that is what I used.
The Streak is also a more comfortable gun.... to pump, shoulder, and on the eyes.
The 342 is a "blocky" gun where the Streak is a smooth flowing thing of beauty.
I believe more testing is in order.
Oh, and thanks for the generous offer Bill. I'll keep that in mind.
