A new Crosman 760 .
19Sheridan57:
I never have a BB rifle, but I was recently staying at a friend's house in upstate S.C. & she wanted something to keep squirrels away. I bought a new Model 760 for her & although it is plastic, I think it is up to the job. She mostly wants to spook the squirrels away, rather than kill them. She has plenty of room in every direction to safely shoot this rifle, even at the maximum number of pumps. Three to five pumps, shooting near them, had them on the run very quickly. It will be up to her to keep this up to keep the critters away !
I also saw 2 Albino Squirrels while there , too. I know that they are pests too, but I enjoyed watching them . I even told her that if she shot those squirrels, I would come back up there & take the rifle away from her !

If they get too used to the BBs flying by, she might have to ramp up to smacking them. As a former co-miserator of absurd deer numbers in his yard used to say, “I think they need to hurt a little!” Then he pumped up, loaded a pellet, and hit the offending deer in the butt. It only moved away a few yards. He called them hooved rats. Gulls were feathered rats, though I doubt he shot those.
I’ve had similar results after smacking mule deer with a pellet in the side or the butt, although they moved farther away. They come back later. It would take more power to penetrate their hides, but as with the guy above the goal is only to make them feel a hit, not to maim. I actually threw a rock at one back there, hit it, and the deer only moved away a few yards before standing and staring at me. That’s why I began practicing with a slingshot. The deer hated the sound of the rocks or balls hitting cans.

Hi Pat,
Yes , she might have to resort to giving them a sting on the butt. She will have to be persistent with guarding her property. Her land borders a creek with Hickory nuts & acorns everywhere .
PGunner:
They just come back then run if they see movement and come back early in the morning. Tree rats aren't very smart but if they want what you have they will find a way. My sister has the same problem.
