The Green Monster
(1/1)
Bill_in_TR:
Does anybody here shoot the USBR green monster? In particular does anyone shoot it with a springer? Most folks I know who do shoot it use a 22 lr rifle at 50 yards and find it to be a challenging target. But USBR rules provide for an air rifle class shot at 25 yards. It is a bench rest target naturally. Quite honestly I believe many PCP's should do quite well on this target at 25 yards. But for a springer it is definitely a challenge. I don't shoot bench rest competitively but I have started using this target in my back yard range for both air rifle and 22 lr. I don't have a high end bench rest set up but I have decent enough bench and equipment to have a pretty solid platform to shoot off of.
Just curious if any others here shoot this target much and what you think of it. Maybe I find it challenging because I'm old with deteriorating eyes and reflexes. But it is definitely a fun relaxing afternoon of shooting. Targets are readily available from Amazon and shooting supply places.

Hmmmmm. I thought I would get more of a response than this. Oh well.
RickHem:
Are you referring to the target with green ink bullseyes? The one with 3 sighters and 25 scoring bulls?
I've never shot anything like that before, but it looks challenging for a .22lr at 50 yards. Even an airgun at 25 yards seems formidable.
Bill_in_TR:
That is the target I am referring to. I have seen it referred to as "The Green Monster" on rimfire benchrest forums. The USBR rules provide for an air rifle class at 25 yards. I shoot it in my backyard for fun and practice. I am using a Spring piston rifle which adds to the difficulty. The targets are available on line.
